Good afternoon Cardinal Families!
Fourth Nine Weeks is underway!
As a reminder a weather make-up day has been added for Friday, April 5 due to the bad weather day on January 16. April 5th was previously designated as a staff development day and will now be a regular school day. Also, to limit disruptions related to the total solar eclipse, we have designated April 8 as a Student/Staff Holiday (No School on Monday, April 8) and Friday April 12 will be a regular school day. Please review the latest school calendar.

Starting after Spring Break, LSC will launch some exciting adjustments in our behavior management system. Our focus will remain on celebrating positive behaviors and guiding through praise.
Our primary goal with these adjustments is to enhance communication between teachers and parents regarding your child's classroom behavior while also fostering consistency throughout our campus. We believe that clear communication and consistent expectations are essential for creating a positive learning environment for all students.
One of the key changes you'll notice is the introduction of behavior marks, which will help quantify citizenship grades awarded to students on their report cards. These marks will provide a more transparent understanding of your child's behavior in the classroom and how it contributes to their overall academic progress.
Additionally, each student will be given a conduct sheet to take home in their folder each night. This conduct sheet will serve as a communication tool between the school and home. If your child receives no marks on the conduct sheet, it indicates that they had a great day at school. However, if your child does receive a note or letter on the conduct sheet, please refer to the bottom of the sheet to understand the meaning behind the mark. Seven or more marks in a student's folder or office referrals may result in not participating in end of year events like Field Day.
We believe that these adjustments will not only help us better track and address behavior issues but also provide you with valuable insights into your child's day-to-day experiences at school. By working together, we can ensure that every student receives the support and guidance they need to succeed academically and socially.
If you have any questions or concerns about these changes, please don't hesitate to reach out to me or any member of our staff.
Mark your calendars! The Great North American Eclipse is happening in Dallas, Texas, on Monday, April 8. See below for free activities and resources that can be used to enhance your eclipse experience. (Information provided by the Perot Museum)

FAQ For the Event:
Who can submit a recipe:
This year, we’re accepting entries grade 1 through 5. Forms are in the Main Office and in the Cafeteria.
Why this event exists:
The idea behind this event is to help educate the kids about HEALTHY EATING HABITS. Too often we hear about kids not making the right choices in terms of their eating habits. Plus, eating healthy should be fun! That’s why we want kids to submit recipes highlighting their FAVORITE RECIPE FROM HOME OR FAMILY RECIPE.
How will students be Judged/Selected:
Judging will be based on the following criteria:
• Originality
• Kid Friendly
• Ease of Preparation
• Healthy Attributes
• Plate Presentation
• Taste
• Student Chef Presentation to Judges
Timeline of the event:
1. A flyer with recipe cards will be offered daily in the cafeteria from March 6th until March 28th.
2. A panel of administrators will evaluate recipe submissions and narrow the number of finalists down to up to 2 kids per school.
3. Those finalists will be formally invited to a Culinary Competition “Cook-Off” on April 25th, tentatively scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
All Finalists will receive a cooking inspired goodie bag along with a chance to win prizes including a bicycle.
The local press will be invited to take pictures of the kids’ creations and parents and teachers can view (and taste!) the final product during the reception portion of the event.
Powerhouse is accepting new enrollments for the remainder of the Spring 2024 semester! From now until March 31st, if you are currently enrolled in Powerhouse and you refer a friend, you and your friend can get one week of free childcare! Congrats to our ___ Grade Team for having ___% attendance last week. They have won either a popcorn party or extra recess, their choice!! Who is going to win this week?
Studies show how critical it is for students to be at school everyday, all day, all the way! To help support our LSC attendance, we are going to host a weekly competition. The class with the highest attendance percentage each week will earn either extra recess or a class popcorn party. Please make sure to help your student's class be the top class by making attendance a priority.
College, Career, and Military Readiness Week is coming up! Please see the flyer below to learn more about how you can be a part of this opportunity.
When you are ready for life, you have the ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change. You are able to overcome situations with an attitude of optimism. You always maintain a positive attitude and focus on what you could learn from the situation. By doing these things, you are using the LifeLeader attribute, RESILIENT.
We’re committed to supporting all students' social-emotional behavioral (SEB) and LifeLeader development. Join us in supporting the growth by scanning the QR code for weekly conversation starters to reflect on SEB and LifeLeader skills with your child.
