Our room parents are organizing some very fun holiday events for our students. If you are interested in helping with the class parties on 12/21, please contact your child's teacher or their room parent directly. There are so many ways to assist, such as sending in items/donations, set up, clean up, or help run the party. Thank you in advance for making these the "Merriest" of class parties.
Our Chirpie mascot is ordered, thanks to all our fundraising, and will be on campus in January. He is flying across a very large ocean to get here!
As we begin to wrap up 2023, I want to thank you for the opportunity to be your school's Assistant Principal and to help your student grow in their LifeLeader Attributes. Please remember, if you haven't yet joined our LSC Galaxy Digital as a "FAN", it's super important to our Campus Improvement Plan that you do. Please click: Fan of LSC.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to click here: email Mrs. Merry. Thank you, as always, for being a Partner for Life in your students education! Mrs. Merry
We are excited to announce that for the first time ever we are having a campus Spelling Bee. Winners will advance to Regionals (and then possibly Washington DC for the final competition-all expenses paid). Here are the spelling lists if you would like to help your child prepare for the campus competition.
Congrats to our 2nd Grade Team for having 99% attendance last week. They have won either a popcorn party or extra recess, their choice!! Who is going to win this week?
Studies show how critical it is for students to be at school everyday, all day, all the way! To help support our LSC attendance, we are going to host a weekly competition. The class with the highest attendance percentage each week will earn either extra recess or a class popcorn party. Please make sure to help your student's class be the top class by making attendance a priority.
The 2023-24 Student Handbook has undergone recent updates to reflect legislative changes. These revisions were approved by the Life School Board of Directors on September 20, 2023. Click here to see the letter to parents.
Helping your child manage their emotions
Learning to self-regulate is a key milestone in child development – whose foundations are laid in the earliest years of life. A child’s capacity to regulate their emotions affects their family and peers, academic performance, long-term mental health, and their ability to thrive in a complex world.
To self-regulate, we need to notice, monitor and recognize feelings – and adapt them appropriately for each situation. This doesn’t always mean decreasing negative feelings and increasing positive ones. Merely suppressing negative feelings and forcing ourselves not to express them are not good a self-regulation process.
Their parents’ own ability to practice self-regulation is among the first emotion-related modeling children see. Kids learn the “correct” reaction in different situations. They watch how parents control and struggle with intense feelings and impulses. Research shows that children of parents who struggle with emotional regulation are more likely to end up having dysregulation. If a parent is reactive, screams or yells whenever something goes wrong, the child learns to be reactive and misbehave when things don’t go their way. If a parent is calm and thinks critically to solve problems, the child is more likely to stay calm and look for solutions instead of blames. The younger the child, the stronger is this imitation effect.
To effectively teach self-regulation, parents can adopt the following parenting approach:
be warm, accepting and responsive to their child’s emotional needs
talk about emotions
accept, support and show empathy to validate their negative feelings,
be patient
do not ignore, dismiss, discourage, punish or react negatively to their child’s emotions, especially negative ones

When you are ready to lead, you think about the information and tools you have to find a solution to a problem. You ask questions, listen to what others think, identify the problem, and then take action. By doing these things, you are using the LifeLeader attribute, PROBLEM SOLVER.
