Mark your calendars for our Annual Holiday Program happening on Thursday December 21st from 1:45pm-2:30pm! Holiday Classroom Parties will be taking place immediately after the program from 2:30pm-3:00pm. The pre-registration link for the Holiday Program will be coming soon!
Happy December - the most "merriest" time of year! First and foremost, thank you to all our parents who are participating in our Partners for Life group! December has several opportunities for parents to volunteer and assist on and off campus. Many classes will be hosting holiday parties, activities, and our room parents/guardians will be assisting teachers with planning/organizing class field trips. If you would like to be more involved assisting our LSC students and staff, please make sure to reach out to your student's teacher, so they can forward your name onto their room parent/guardian who is in charge of organizing classroom volunteers.
I'm excited to say, with all your help, we have finally raised enough money to purchase our Chirpie School Mascot Costume and will be ordering it shortly. Look for our Chirpie Mascot at future LSC events!
Please don't forget that today is our monthly Partners for Life meeting at 4:15. Childcare is provided. All room parents will need to be at this meeting so we can go over some important information, after we finish our general meeting.
As we begin to wrap up 2023, I want to thank you for the opportunity to be your school's Assistant Principal and to help your student grow in their LifeLeader Attributes. Please remember, if you haven't yet joined our LSC Galaxy Digital as a "FAN", it's super important to our Campus Improvement Plan that you do. Please click: Fan of LSC.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to click here Email Mrs. Merry Thank you, as always, for being a Partner for Life in your students education! Mrs. Merry
Congrats to our 2nd Grade Team for having 99% attendance last week. They have won either a popcorn party or extra recess, their choice!! Who is going to win this week?
Studies show how critical it is for students to be at school everyday, all day, all the way! To help support our LSC attendance, we are going to host a weekly competition. The class with the highest attendance percentage each week will earn either extra recess or a class popcorn party. Please make sure to help your student's class be the top class by making attendance a priority.
The 2023-24 Student Handbook has undergone recent updates to reflect legislative changes. These revisions were approved by the Life School Board of Directors on September 20, 2023. Click here to see the letter to parents.
Kids Brains and Screens: The Impact of Cartoons and other fast-paced videos and video games
Helping limit your child's screen time can have an impact not only on their brain development, but also behavior. Here are some key points to consider as you develop a plan for technology use at home:
Children use an average of 7.5 hours a day of entertainment technology (television, video games, movies, internet, cell phones, iPads and other devices). This figure does not include any educational based technologies. (Kaiser Foundation Report)
After just 9 min. of viewing fast-paced TV cartoons, studies showed an immediate decrease in cognitive function. (AAP) Just 9 minutes, hinders abstract thinking, short-term memory and impulse control in preschoolers. Our brains didn’t evolve to process things that happen at this surreal speed, so it becomes exhausting to kids’ brains,” Children who overuse fast paced technologies such as video games, are ‘pruning’ their brains to not access their frontal lobes, known for executive function and impulse control. (Small 2008, Murray 2006)[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Children 0 to 2 years of age should not be exposed to any form of technology
Elementary-aged children, should be limited to 1 to 2 hours technology per day. (C Rowan, 2010)
The well-known Harvard Grant Study, concluded that childhood chores, hard work and meaningful relationships lead to success and happiness in life. Childhood screens should take a backseat to developing those qualities first in your student’s life. (Harvard)

When you are ready for life, you focus on a particular goal and the task that is needed to achieve that goal. You think about who you want to be, what you want to be known for, what is meaningful to you, and what you can achieve. You are always thinking about what steps you can take to get you closer to your end goal. By doing these things, you are using the LifeLeader attribute, GOAL-ORIENTED.
