Term 2
Tiger Class have really enjoyed exploring our theme 'A Special Time of Year' this term. We have explored lots of different religious celebrations and finished the term making Christmas decorations and practicing for our Nativity. Tigers have worked really hard this term and we can't wait to learn more in Term 3!
Term 3
Tiger class have had a brilliant first few weeks of Term 3; our topic this term is 'Wild, Wild West'. Last week, we explored the 6 ways to wellbeing, and made our own sensory/calming toys! The children enjoyed choosing which toy they would make, and then working to select different resources to create their final object. This week we have started to explore different habitats, particularly those in the warmer countries. We had a sensory carousel to explore the desert, the rainforest and the arctic. We are now working in small groups to create our own habitat shoe boxes! We have also been enjoying our specialist lessons, particularly dance and sensory cooking!
We have had a lovely time exploring a range of sensory activities in the second half of Term 3. We worked collaboratively in small groups to create some beautiful habitat shoe boxes, exploring different environments and animals. We used recycled materials to create and fill our own bird feeders, which we hung in our outdoor area and have been enjoying watching the birds! As the weather has been getting sunnier, Tigers have engaged in some fantastic mark making outside, and enjoyed exploring different sensory tuff trays as a class. Everyone has worked really hard this term, we are very proud of the tigers.
Term 4
This term, our topic is 'Let's go on an adventure!'. Tiger class started Term 4 by having an adventure of our own - we had a lovely walk in the sunshine to our local park! The children walked really nicely and loved exploring the different park equipment.
It has been a busy few weeks in Tiger Class! In Week 1, we enjoyed pancake day and a whole phase Immersion Day for our overarching topic. The children really enjoyed joining with their peers and engaging with a range of sensory activities to support their understanding of 'adventure'. We then made our own pirate maps in class! In Week 2, we celebrated World Book Day by dressing up and sharing some lovely stories with our peers and families. As a class, we explored 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt', using sensory bottles and props. In Week 3, we have been continuing our Community Participation sessions, walking to the local shops to choose and buy snacks for the class. We have also been focusing on our fine motor skills through our clever finger sessions.
The rest of this term has flown by! We have continued to explore different continents as part of our overarching termly topic, which has shaped and guided our topic lessons, morning work and outdoor learning. In Week 4, we learnt about Frida Kahlo and made our own flower crowns by posting flowers on to pictures of ourselves. We focused on Australia throughout the week, making fairy bread in our cooking sessions and exploring the Great Barrier Reef through sensory trays. In Week 5, we travelled to Europe - we learnt about the Northern Lights and made our own pictures using chalk and glitter, and engaged in a mark making activity using paint and glitter outside. We also made biscuits for Red Nose Day! We have finished the term this week with an Easter egg hunt and lots of fun playing, learning and having fun together. We have seen so much progression and development from the Tiger children in the last few weeks and it has been a busy, fun filled term. We are looking forward to warmer days and seeing what we can learn next term!
Term 5
Welcome back, Tigers! This term our overarching topic is 'Food, Glorious Food'! We have lots of exciting activities planned throughout the term to support us in our learning and exploration of food, including where our food comes from, how food has changed throughout history and how to form a healthy lifestyle.
In Week 1, we explored farm animals through different sensory trays - the cornflour slime was a big hit among the children! We also learnt about 'respectful relationships' in our RSE lesson, then engaged with turn taking activities to support our understanding. We also took a trip to the local supermarket to buy different fruit and veg to explore! We finished Week 1 with a whole phase immersion afternoon, sharing our space with all of our peers, forming new relationships and communicating our likes and dislikes. In Week 2, we have been focusing on the concept of 'healthy versus unhealthy'. We listened to lots of different songs and stories, and particularly enjoyed 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. We worked as a class to create a rainbow of fruit and veg! It has been a busy couple of weeks and we are looking forward to even more exciting activities as the term continues.
Tiger class have continued to work really hard this term and have made some fantastic personal achievements. We have really enjoyed learning about the King's Coronation, engaging with a sensory story, sharing a book and making collage pictures. We have continued to work on our indiviual maths and english targets, as well as a whole-class focus on communication and independence. Children have continued to access the local community, using our communication skills to request activities and choose snacks for our peers, and working on our understanding of safety. In our sensory cooking sessions, the Tigers have enjoyed exploring a range of recipes and ingredients in line with our overarching topic.
Term 6
This term, our overarching topic is 'Feathers, Fur, Claws and Scales'! We will be exploring a range of animals and life cycles across our curriculum, and linking this to our individual targets during work sessions.
In Weeks 1 and 2, we have enjoyed engaging in lots of outdoor play in the sunshine! We have started our History topic, focusing on dinosaurs, and enjoyed sharing stories, exploring sensory trays and moving like different dinosaurs! We have also been learning about Dale Chihuly in Art and engaged in some mark making activities using movement and texture. We have done some really lovely whole group learning to work on our literacy and numeracy targets, and the Tigers are doing really well to share their space and resources. In PE, we are exploring ball skills this term, and we are really looking forward to our Sports Day on Friday! We have had a real focus on our independence in caring for ourselves this term, including teeth brushing and handwashing, and the Tigers are adapting really well to this.
