Students experienced role play with toy fire engines and explored sensory trays looking at different temperatures with heat pads and ice, linking with our learning that 'our senses tell us about the world'. Our artist this term has been Van Gogh, the students have enjoyed exploring our yellow themed 'Sunflowers' art as well as making their own 'The Starry Night' paintings on shiny foil!
Penguins have also been enjoying more outdoor learning! We have a new outdoor area to decorate and the students have been hard at work getting our space ready for some exciting learning in the summer modules!
In the last couple of weeks of this module, we have been celebrating Easter! Through cross curricular learning including decorating eggs, egg hunts, exploring spring time flowers and tasting hot cross buns!

Module 4, welcome back!
We are starting off this module in Penguin Class looking at our new areas of focus, under the line of inquiry 'our senses tell us about the world'. We are using our senses to learn about seasonal changes and springtime leading up to Easter at the end of this module.
We have also begun to think about safety in the last couple of weeks, with students thinking about what around them is safe to touch, or not safe to touch. An important life skill for all of our students. Some students have been investigating areas of the school or home where being safe is really important, such as the kitchen. Others have been learning to respond to or recognise the word 'stop' through playing stop and go games. This has been a lot of fun and again, is an important life skill in order to keep safe. The focus on safety this term is also linked to our learning on The Great Fire of London (more pictures to follow!).
We can't wait to update you later in the module with all of the fun learning activities that the Penguin students explore via all of their senses!

Hello 😀 It has been lovely to see the children enjoying their first week of school! On this page you will find all of the exciting learning happening in Penguin Class...
Our transdisciplinary theme is: Who We Are
Our central idea is: Understanding myself and others helps me develop
This module, we are working on our line of inquiry, 'different people help us live and grow'. The Penguin pupils have been busy learning about all of the different people who can help us, including in school, at home and in the local community.
We have been very lucky with the weather, which has enabled us to go out into New Ash Green as a class and learn about our local area and the different people that we see helping people every day.
The Penguin pupils look forward to sharing more of their fantastic work with you over the term!

End of Module 1
The Penguin pupils have had a fantastic module 1 - what a great start to the school year!
The children have had great fun learning about all the different people who help us both in school and out in the community. We have certainly seen some great acting in our role play sessions, pretending to be police officers, firefighters and doctors!
Students have grown in confidence during activities that are new to some of them this term, including rebound therapy, visits to the interactive room and TACPAC (a sensory session focusing on communication through touch and music). The penguin pupils have all worked incredibly hard and are settling in well together as a group, with some great little friendships forming too!
Next term, we will continue into our line of inquiry 'different people help us live and grow' with a focus this time on families, including some lovely celebrations including Diwali and Christmas!
Have a lovely half term break!
