Module 2
Welcome back to module 2! We are excited to explore a range of exciting topics across the curriculum. In English, we will be reading and writing Traditional Tales and Poems from other cultures, developing our understanding of storytelling and rhythm. In Science, we will be learning about Everyday Materials, investigating their properties and how they are used in our daily lives. Through our PSHE and History lessons, we will focus on Celebrating Differences and learn about The Gunpowder Plot, understanding key historical events and the importance of diversity and respect. In RE, we will explore Diwali and The Nativity, comparing different cultural and religious celebrations. In Art, we will develop our Drawing and Painting Skills, while in PE, we will practise Locomotion, improving our movement and coordination. In Design and Technology, we will investigate Food Packaging, looking at how products are designed and presented. Finally, in Computing, we will continue to build our digital skills by learning to use Touch Screens and Keyboards effectively.
During Attention Bucket this week, Leopard Class have loved the sunflower bubble toy and the dinosaur musical light toy. Arai and Jimmy in particular have showed great attention and focus during the session and they have asked for 'more' of a favoured item with gestural and verbal prompting from the adults supporting them. Well done Leopards!
Finley had great fun in Soft Play this week; exploring the ball pool and finding his way out of all of the balls!
Manan with support engaged in rocking activities and pressing the buttons to change the coloured lights on the light wall during Zen Den time.
Learning outside
Leopard Class have been enjoying exploring resources, equipment and engaging in learning outdoors. Antonela and Caleb have loved tipping, pouring and sprinkling activities. Manan has engaged well during Forest school and he had a go at spinning the steering wheel on the forest 'car'. Arai has enjoyed some regulation time in the spin top in the outside area.
Time with Harper - Milestone Dog Mentor
Caleb enjoyed a visit from Harper who came to Leopard Class, with Liz. Caleb was very gentle whilst stroking Harper and spending time with Harper in class had a calming effect on Caleb.
Library
Manan made himself comfortable in the reading cubby hole. He showed good attention towards favoured chosen books.
Noah chose to look at a book with different vehicles. As the adult supporting Noah read the story to him, Noah took their hand and help their finger to point to different images on the pages. He enjoyed listening to the adult name different objects from the story.
Antonela listened to an adult share a chosen story with her. She pointed to familiar objects in pictures and signed some key signs including 'dog' and 'man'.
Antonela chose to look at the book 'There's a monster in your book'. Antonela independently turned the pages and observed the images as she navigated through the book.
Manan chose favoured books from the book shelf in the Library. Manan liked exploring the different textures in the 'That's not my....' books.
Noah independently chose books during our library session. He particularly showed interest in the 'That's not my monster' book. Noah touched the textured images on the pages and navigated his way through the book with adult verbal prompting.
Inquiry learning - Jack & the Beanstalk
Caleb showed good attention & focus, using his fine motor skills to pick up rice and pasta and add this to the beanstalk. He made sure he filled each hole.
Arai had fun exploring the textures of the rice and pasta. He liked sprinkling this in the tuff tray and on the beanstalk.
Jimmy liked pushing his hands and fingers into homemade green playdough. He used his hand and wrist to flatten and then roll the dough, to make a beanstalk, with some adult prompting.
Noah enjoyed squashing the pasta and listening to the pasta crunch in his fingers. He showed good focus & engagement at the tuff tray activity.
Children in Need
Antonela showed good attention to the task, having some support to paint her paper plate to make her own Pudsey face.
Caleb followed key verbal instructions and symbol support to make his own Pudsey face.
Caleb enjoyed helping to mix cake batter in a bowl, to make some fairy cakes. Caleb watched an adult use the mixer and then he held on to the mixer, moving this around the bowl to combine the ingredients.
Finley helped to add cake batter to cupcake cases, after stirring the mixture together.
Jimmy made sure that every section of the cupcake tin had a cupcake case in. He listened to and followed directions well.
Some of Leopard Class pupils enjoyed trying on Pudsey ears :)
Attention Bucket
Caleb showed excellent focus towards a frog toy; watching intently as the adult squeezed the frog for the tongue to flick out.
Antonela watched as the musical monkey did somersaults across the table. She completed tracking with her eyes and remained engaged for the whole session.
Noah used his eyes to track the wriggling caterpillar as it moved across the table. Noah asked for 'more' when verbally prompted, tapping an adults hand to request 'more'.
Manan exchanged good eye contact and he focussed very well, watching the frogs tongue flick out when it was squeezed by the adult.
Module 1
We are excited to begin Module 1 with our new theme, “Who We Are.” This term, children will learn about healthy lifestyles, including balanced diets, and explore the important people in their lives at home and school. We will also be settling into new routines, making the most of our outdoor spaces, and enjoying weekly Forest School sessions to build confidence and curiosity. We look forward to an exciting term of learning.
Arai liked searching through the books on each shelf in the school library, until he found just the right book to look at!
Noah enjoyed sitting with an adult and listening to them tell him what the picture on the page was. He held the adults finger to point to one picture at a time.
Antonela loved feeling different textures of the images in the story of 'That's not my baby'. Antonela showed some good signing too, copying key signs from the adult supporting her including 'baby', 'hat' and 'duck'.
Jimmy used his gross motor skills to move himself from side to side in the giant spin top. Jimmy also liked moving the spin top backwards, laying in this on his back.
With adult support, Caleb used the body rocker to rock forwards & backwards. As he became more confident using this, he then briefly let go of the adults hands and rocked independently for a few seconds!
Noah was supported to roll on his belly on the peanut ball, rocking forwards and backwards; he enjoyed this motion!
Finley enjoyed tasting different fruits during our story of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. He tasted all of the same fruits which the caterpillar enjoys!
Antonela joined in with pointing to & counting the fruits which the caterpillar eats.
Caleb enjoyed pretending to help the caterpillar to eat each of the fruits; making munching & crunching sounds, as he pretended to feed the caterpillar.
Antonela explored mark making using a water pen to draw within a variety of different shaped & letter stencils.
Arai used different sized & shaped containers to explore tipping and pouring during water play.
Noah used his problem solving & fine motor skills to open different latches and locks on a puzzle.
