In RE we have been learning about Hinduism and the Holi festival.
We have been making the most of the nice weather by taking our learning outside! In maths some of us have been working on our subtraction skills!
In our English lessons we have continued to enjoy our class read 'Handa's surprise'.
We continue to enjoy working on our phonics and exploring books!
In cooking we made our own moons using rice cakes, cream cheese and bananas! We worked on this during our inquiry afternoon where we are learning about the eat well plate and healthy eating and in history the first man on the moon!
In Science we were inquiring into everyday materials where we were identifying the properties that made up different items including metal, plastic, wood and paper.
We have continued our Art work focusing on the artist Marc Chagall, this week we created art work using straws to blow the paint around the page.
Giraffe class started off the week with a splash 🌊 continuing to enjoy our weekly trip to the local leisure centre for our swimming lessons, this week we worked on moving our arms and legs in the water at the same time!
In maths we have been looking at volume and capacity. We had a great lesson where we identified if a cup was full, half-full or empty. We then took turns filling the cup up to half-full and full. The best part was making the cup empty by throwing the water out and watching it splash everywhere!
We have continued our Art work based on Marc Chagall, this week we used flowers to created flower prints on paper. 🎨
Our theme in cooking this term is 'Full of fruit' - This week we enjoyed learning how to make (and tasting!) Strawberry and Lime smoothies 🥛🍓🍋
Giraffe class started off the week with a splash! 🌊 We had a great time at our swimming lesson, everyone was so brave and had so much fun! The best bit was when we got to jump into the water off the side of the pool!
In English we have continued our work around our class read - The Little Red Hen. On Tuesday we practiced our reading and writing skills by reading key words from the story and tracing over them to work on our letter formation.
We have been learning to count and sort the number of objects in each category and this week we counted how many children were in each class .
We are learning about the artist Marc Chagall
Giraffe class have had a great first week back after half term and everyone has settled back in well to our routine. We enjoyed sharing our half term news to our peers on Monday. On Tuesday we enjoyed listening to our new story for the term 'The Little Red Hen' and completing some activities linked to this story. On Wednesday we had a great maths lesson where we went around classes within Phase 1 and found out how many girls and how many boys there were in each class, we then recorded this on our worksheet!
We are looking forward to starting our swimming next Monday! (Parents please remember to send in swimming kits).
Check out what we learned in Giraffe Class last year!

Welcome to module 3
Module 3:
Happy new year! Giraffe class is having a brilliant term so far! We have begun focusing on our new transdisciplinary theme - ‘how the world works’ and have been working on this through our inquiry afternoons. In Science we have been having lots of fun learning about animal habitats within the local environment; We took insect viewing pots and went exploring around the school grounds to see what animals we could find in our local environment, our findings included slugs, snails, earwigs and worms! We went to look at the pond to see if we could see any fish but it had frozen over due to the cold weather! This linked in well to our Geography where we have been comparing habitats, weather and physical features in hot and cold climates. And we were even lucky enough to enjoy some time in the snow! In Art we have been looking at Cas Holmes work and the use of textures when creating pieces of artwork. Our PSPD focus has been dreams and goals; We had a great time writing and drawing our dreams and then taking them to the local postbox to post to our homes! We are looking forward to continuing our learning around how the world works!🦒
Module 2:
Giraffe class had a wonderful term! We have continued focusing on our transdisciplinary theme of ‘who we are’ and have been achieving this through our inquiry afternoons. In Science we have been focusing on how to look after pets and small animals, in Cooking we have been looking at foods for celebrations and in history we have been focusing on schools then and now. Giraffe class have really loved exploring a range of different toys and equipment that were used in Victorian schools, such as chalk boards and abacuses! All of the students in Giraffe class enjoy sharing their weekend news each Monday to the class, having the opportunity to work on their speaking and listening skills by asking and answering questions - If you would like your child to share photos of what they have been up to during their weekend news, please email to the class email or upload on tapestry!
We have been getting in the festive spirit by learning about Christmas, doing a range of Christmas activities and have been practising for our Christmas performance!
We hope you all have a lovely break, enjoy lots of yummy food and happy times with your family and friends! See you next year! 🦒
Module 1
Welcome! Giraffe class has had a great first few weeks back at school and everyone has settled back in so well! We are enjoying our work based around our central idea - ‘Our different experiences make us unique and special.’
It is so great to see everyone in Giraffe class being happy, making friends and pushing themselves in their learning! Starting each day with circle time and ending each day with a group storytime on the carpet is a great way to help students learn about supporting, encouraging and taking turns with their peers.
Giraffe class has been especially enjoying our circle time routine, PE sessions, Attention Autism (Bucket time), trips to the school library and mostly our weekly trip to the teepees for our whole phase inquiry morning!
Some of our highlights from Attention Autism include 'Tea bag splat' & 'Balloon pop'!
