Purposes of Refocus Corners 🤔
Some teachers have a desk sitting in a corner called a refocus corner, and some of us have been sent back to them. A refocus corner is a desk off to the side from all the others, so when you can't focus or you're causing distractions you most likely will get sent back there. How does it make you feel to sit in a corner like that? There are many purposes of refocusing corners and we’re here to discuss the teacher's reasoning for having them.
The teachers have set up this program to “refocus” students to return to class or gather their attention. Different teachers have a variety of fidgets for you to refocus your attention on the teacher such as putty, a timer, and other little gadgets for you to use. Others have hand tracing and breathing lessons for you to calm down. It all depends on the student and why they were sent back there. Just imagine getting distracted or being a distraction to other students. How would you like to practice calming down?
Does it actually work? From previous experiences with students getting sent to the refocus corner, students have actually seemed quieter. However, it doesn’t mean it worked perfectly every time. If the desk is further away from the teacher would it work better or not at all?
To sum it up, do these “refocus corners” actually help with getting the student's attention? Or are they just even more distracting for students? It’s up to you to decide just try not to try it out yourself.
