Why do Humans Need Sleep?
By: Callie Schull
We all sleep at some point in our day or night, it could be just a nap, it could be later in the night when you are tired, or you aren't feeling good, or someone hit you with a baseball bat and knocked you out making you faint. In any case, we all get sleep one way or another.
There are tons of benefits to sleeping. The reason why we need sleep is for us to have a healthy brain that can properly function our body, and also maintain our mental and physical health. It's important because when we are tired we can be quite moody and upset easily, but getting a good night's rest would put you in a better mood and will improve your brain performance and attitude.Â
Another positive to sleep is what it helps out with. It helps our growth throughout the years and lessens stress hormones. Sleep also affects our immune system, blood pressure, appetite, cardiovascular health, and breathing. Sleep is a big thing to us humans as listed with all the positives if you do get good rest.
But what would happen if you don't get good rest? What are the side effects that will cause you problems? Let's find out what issues it will cause for your physical body and mental health.
Sleeping deficiency is connected to many problematic health issues. That includes heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, obesity, and also depression. These are all serious problems that can very much be life-threatening, and these are only a good chunk of the problems that can be caused by lack of sleep.
We talked about if you don't get good sleep, let's go to the topic of if you don't get sleep at all. If you haven't had any sleep in the past 24 hours you'll be cognitively impaired. This means that because of lack of sleep, your brain wil function at a much lower level. You may feel okay, but your brain will be reallt struggling to be awake and function as it would on a normal day.
All of these are the reason why sleep is important and why you and everyone else needs to get a good night's rest, I hope this changes your perspective on sleep and makes you and others get a better night's rest like you and all should.
