Ouch! You just fell on the ground and your knee is bleeding a lot. Oooh that hurts a lot. After dealing with the pain you wonder why do we say ow?
Well one of the reasons why we say ow is because it has alot to deal with our bodys trying to distract ourselves from the pain that we are feeling. So some reaserchers gathered up 56 volunteers and had them put their hand in painful cold water, the researchers had split them up into two groups one of the groups say ow when their hand is in the water and the other group stay silent when their hand is in the water. Belive it or not the people that kept saying ow stood the pain longer having an average of 30 seconds while the other group that stayed silent had an average of 23 seconds. So this proves that saying ow or making noises in genral while in pain makes it so that you can take pain alot more. (Huffingpost,2023)
Some researchers hypothesize that Muscles cry out loud and send pain messages to the brain telling the brain that there's a area of the body that is in pain and tells the brain to make you say ow.
