Top 5 Brawlers in Brawl Stars According to KairosTime (and pros)

Brawl Stars has been on the rise in popularity lately with Gear costs being essentially halved and the Starr Park lore becoming more apparent with each update. But there are players who aren’t in for the lore, but rather for the competitive eSports and gameplay. And while the changelog for brawlers can be exciting because of the way it can affect the meta, when Brawlers get buffed and nerfed it becomes really exciting when the meta gets shaken up and new teams and Brawlers become viable while others drop off.
Well, it looks like something to decipher, because with the Robot Factory update, we have gotten ourselves a new meta! Byron and Eve are not competitive anymore, Nita is actually relatively decent now, and Jacky is still Jacky. But to save you the trouble of deciphering the meta yourself, the Brawl Stars content creator known as KairosTime has enlisted help from professional players from all over the world to help make his V29 Tier List. Using his list and some intuition and outside opinion, I am listing the Top 5 Brawlers in Brawl Stars. Let’s get started.
Starting off the countdown of the Top 5, we have the unkillable Janet. Her Main Attack’s unique function of becoming narrower as it becomes longer, the added piercing with the small area control with her Attack can make it a threat if enemies bunch up together. The fact that makes her unkillable is her Super. Even with her nerfs to her health and Super charge rate, her Super is still unbelievably broken. Her invincibility with it can become game-changing in the right situations, whether escaping a kill, assassinating low-health enemies with her Super, or the like.
Her Gadgets meanwhile, are FAR from useless as well. With the Drop The Bass Gadget, the turret’s soundwaves can prevent healing, reveal enemies in bushes, or even be used as a meat shield to absorb what would have been a fatal hit. Drop The Bass is more useful in 3v3 modes, but on the other hand her Backstage Pass Gadget is probably more useful in Showdown modes. It provides an easy escape, a way to jump over walls and water, and even a quick dodge. Even though her Stage View Star Power is extremely viable on VERY bushy maps like Sapphire Plains and Snake Prairie, overall the better choice would be Vocal-Warm Up. Charging her Attack to max range faster provides a more consistent rate of fire against enemies because the faster you charge attacks the faster you can fire them.
And at 4th, we have the Chromatic Brawler of the Season 14 Brawl Pass, the one and only Sam Bronson. (In case you were wondering, he does have a canonical last name.) His high-skill cap can make him very hard to master and manage, but is very rewarding when you do. His Main Attack can deal so much damage when his Knuckle Busters are equipped and he can reload and unload so fast without them equipped. His Super lets him throw his Knuckle Busters on the ground until you pick them up or use his Super again to get them to fly back towards you, damaging any enemy in the way.
Speaking of said Gadgets, out of the two his Magnetic Field Gadget might be overall the better option compared to Pulse Repellent. It can disable enemies for a longer amount of time, pull them in for a kill and knock them down when they are bunched together. Some situations where the other would be useful is when you need to knock enemies out of an area, or even to knock enemies away from allies. What’s not useless is his Hearty Recovery Star Power. That Star Power is just broken. He can heal so fast when he has a wall to launch his Super against. So all in all, whether you want a speed boost, a heal, a disable, or to finish off enemies from far away, he can be very reliable in each category.
And our bronze medalist for this meta is the hero of Super City, Max. She hasn’t gotten any buffs in quite a while, but she has risen to the top because of how the meta has started to revolve around her. She has high DPS, high speed, high survivability, fast reload, but a high skill cap. With her four ammo bars, slight spread and long range, she can unload her Attack fast and burst down enemies from a distance. And with her speed-increasing Super, she can dodge shots from snipers like Brock and Piper and blast ‘em dead.
At Power 7, her gadgets give a great addition to her playstyle. But like with Sam there is a clear advantage between her Sneaky Sneakers Gadget and her Phase Shifter Gadget. It’s Phase Shifter by the way. Sneaky Sneakers can be so unreliable, with its mechanic of essentially reversing time. You can be killed between the activation and teleport, essentially wasting the gadget. This is why Phase Shifter is so much better. It provides a 3-tile dash, and gives an immunity while it’s at it! (*cough cough* Shelly’s Fast Forward Gadget *cough*) It can be used to absorb high damaging Supers like Dynamike’s or Nani’s. But on the other hand her Star Powers are equally balanced. Run n’ Gun decreases reload speed while moving, and it decreases the faster you run. Super Charged however brings faster Super activations because of the passive charging. It also charges faster with faster movement like Run n’ Gun.
Ever since that damage buff, this undead mariachi has been rocking this meta. His attack has such a wide spread that makes it challenging to evade it if you are in range of the soundwave. It can also three-shot a lot more brawlers than it used to, so his 1v1 interactions are a lot more controllable now, and according to KairosTime, “He went from not being able to 1v1 anyone, to being able to 1v1 pretty much everyone.” But his Super is the big game changer for his character. It is a fast moving sound wave that is larger than his Main Attack and can travel through walls. It does not normally deal damage though, instead healing allies for a whopping 3,150 hit points at Power 11, aka max level, allowing for some clutch heals that can help an ally take over a 1v1 against an enemy.
Following the pattern of the last two brawlers, certain Gadgets are a LOT more useful than others. Tuning Fork is always the go-to option in any situation. The healing over time of 400 health per second for 5 seconds is a heal of 2,000 health if you do the math, but it’s at a steady rate that helps teammates survive fights better. On the other yellow, skinless hand, the Protective Tunes Gadget is such a bad and very niche option. Even if it cleanses debuffs and gives an immunity to them, the situational effects don't make it reliable as it should be. But with his Star Powers, they’re equal in viability. Whether you want to heal more consistently with Da Capo! or you want to be able finish enemies off more consistently with Screeching Solo, it all depends on your playstyle. Just remember to heal your allies with your Super and you should be good!
And going back to the gift shop with the gold (see what I did there), it’s the one and only cashier-headed Griff. The reason for his rise in the meta is according to KairosTime, “Not because he’s crazy strong, although he is, it’s because of how he can counter a lot of the other best brawlers in the game right now.” And he’s right. With how he shoots out his coins in a cone-shape, and the damage of the coins, his great Super charge rate, and even the damage of his Super, he is one of the best anti-tank brawlers in the game. But what makes him so useful is his versatility. His Super has such a wide area, which makes him excellent area control. It’s excellent in finishing off enemies due to fast projectile speed, wide range, and good damage in close and long range.
Discontinuing the pattern of the last three Brawlers, the Gadgets are a toss-up in what you choose. Piggy Bank is more useful for opening up the map to help his Super land on more enemies, but NOT for doing damage because of the delay between explosion and activation. The Coin Toss Gadget is also very useful because it makes you shoot an extra row of coins and deal more damage up close, and may be used to help charge your Super faster due to the extra coins. Now, while his gold-as-coins Star Powers aren’t as big of a power spike as his gadgets are, they are pretty powerful in their own right. Keep the Change makes up for Griff’s relatively slow unload speed and it makes shots more consistent to land because the coins are fired faster, giving enemies less time to react before they get slammed with coins. But Business Resilience went from trash, to such a reliable passive heal. With buffs doubling the original 7% of missing health per two seconds to 15%, it’s a lot easier for Griff to be able to survive and stay alive longer in fights.
And so those were the Top 5 Brawlers in Brawl Stars. Max and Griff never got any buffs, but the fact that they went from above average Brawlers to some of the best shows how a video game’s meta is so fragile and how buffs and nerfs can tip a brawler from below average to the second best in the game. Kairos and the pros he enlisted to help make this tier list must have been working hard to analyze the meta and make the most accurate global tier list they could. With Season 15 coming in about a month, I am personally excited for what the new meta can bring and how KairosTime and the pros will make the new meta. And remember, whenever you face an experienced Griff player, run for your life.
P.S. After publishing, the new Brawl Talk for Season 15, The Ghost Station, has dropped. That means this is gonna be useful for only a few more days. There goes my hard work then.
