Charlotte McFarland (12G1), Max Sun (9G4), Jacey Tsoi (9G3), Quinn Lo (9G5), Abby Lee (9G2) and Jazlyn Mok(9G2)
Six students from ICS participated in the Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS) Honor Jazz Band and Jazz Skills Workshop hosted by American School Hong Kong in Tai Po on October 2 - October 4. AMIS is a UK registered charity organization with over 100 member schools around the world. The Jazz Festival has been running for over 10 years - often hosted in Europe. This marks the first time this festival has taken place in Hong Kong. Twenty-two schools were represented in the event - some coming from as far away as London, England.
Charlotte McFarland, grade 12, played trombone in the Honor Jazz Big Band. She was selected as a member of the Big Band by audition - winning a place in the ensemble last May.
Grade 9 students Jazlyn Mok (trumpet), Quinn Lo (flute), Max Sun (drums), Abby Lee (clarinet), and Jacey Tsoi (piano) took part in the Jazz Skills Workshop. ICS was given space for five students to participate in this learning experience. These students were selected by Dr. Taylor on the basis of interest and skill on their chosen instrument.
In addition to the excellent performances on the final day of the festival and workshop, the students had many opportunities to learn about jazz improvisation from outstanding educators and to connect with young musicians who share their passion for jazz. When you see these students, please congratulate them on a great performance and excellent learning experience!
