University of South Wales Initial Teacher Education Partnership

University of South Wales work with many partner schools in their communities of learning and the Regional consortia  ensuring students  will have regular access to specialist classrooms, and guaranteed real-world teaching experiences in primary schools or further education colleges.

We have a history of delivering quality courses, training plenty of student teachers and education professionals. In the National Student Survey 2020, Teacher Training at USW was rated top in Wales for student satisfaction.

We work in partnership with schools who have been selected for their excellent provision and sustained record of high-quality mentoring and involvement with initial teacher education. Many of our lead partnership schools play an active role in shaping the developing Curriculum for Wales, influencing policy, school-to-school improvement and raising standards.

From Septemeber 2020, if you choose to study at least 40 credits of your course through the medium of Welsh, you can apply for a scholarship to receive £500 per year from Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. Click here for more information.

Wider Professional Learning Opportunities at USW

National Masters in Education

National Masters Fully funded partnership places on the MA Education (Wales) programme.

Partnership places can go to individuals who fall outside of the 3-6 year criteria. We have had a number of strong applications and have made offers but would really like to ensure that anyone who is interested has an opportunity to apply.

Teachers who would like to be considered for one of these partnership places, should apply directly to USW and state clearly in their personal statement that they are applying for a partnership place. Details of the programme and how to apply can be found here MA Education (Wales) | University of South Wales. Please note that all ITE Partnerships in Wales are offering fully funded places on the MA Education (Wales) programme.

Any applicants that do not gain a USW ITE partnership place may still be eligible for a place on the programme. In this case, Welsh Government funding is for teachers in years 3 – 6 of their career (when starting the course). There will be on-going national panel meetings to award funding to teachers who apply to HEIs directly in this way, so they will not have to make a separate funding application.

If anyone has any questions about the partnership places, please contact Lisa Taylor lisa.taylor@southwales.ac.uk. For questions about the MA Education (Wales) programme in general, please contact Matt Hutt at USW matthew.hutt@southwales.ac.uk  for further information and support.
