Welcome Back CSCS!
I was talking with a friend in BC who starts his first day back on Tuesday after Labour Day, while we are already kicking off our third week!
It was fantastic meeting so many of you last spring and at our Welcome Back BBQ. I’ve also truly enjoyed our conversations in the parking lot, around the school, and in my office. As I settle into my role as principal, one thing is abundantly clear: this school is deeply supported by its community.
Staff Focus & Mindset: In our opening days, I challenged our staff to be curious, vulnerable, and intentional. To support this, our staff is studying Carol Dweck’s Mindset as we work together to help every student realize their full potential.
Startup Assembly Highlights: On Friday, we held our startup assembly. We introduced staff (live and the comic book superhero version of themselves), played games, and gave away prizes. We focused on two key areas:
School Opportunities: Reminding students about everything available to them, including academic and mental health supports, nutrition programs, athletics (volleyball, cross country, golf), trades/Collegiate programs, CTF/CTS courses, Travel Club, Alt. Ed., and leadership opportunities.
Student vs. Learner: Building on the work students did last year regarding what makes a "good student" versus a "good learner." I compiled their input and used AI to generate an infographic. I encourage you to review it with your child—being a good student provides the foundation for becoming a great learner.
As parents/guardians, I want to encourage you to connect and be involved in the school. We have our school council AGM coming up on the 16th, and we have an apple & pear fundraiser going on.
If we haven’t met yet, please stop by and say hello! (Fun fact: I recently discovered I went to college with someone right here in town).
Warmly,
~Ian Tisdale
