Greetings Hawks,
We recently recognized pink shirt day at the school and its message to end bullying. It reminded me of the call for kindness that we promote daily. I think that it is a message that we can all agree upon. Yet a school is a complex place, whenever we gather close to 300 people in an environment there is sure to be conflict. In those moments it is often more difficult to maintain a kind persona, and also to remember when to admit to fault. It has to be a conscious decision and I want to thank you for collaborating with us on supporting our students in becoming skilled in these moments. The secrets to life are often simple, but not often easy.
On a housekeeping note, a reminder that we will have Parent Teacher Interviews next week! We would love to see you so sign up below. Finally, I sent out an email earlier in the week in regard to a Principal Feedback survey. This is standard process for any principal who transfers buildings. If you have a moment, please take some time to complete the survey. I appreciate the feedback, it will help me become a better administrator and perhaps more importantly, a better person. If the email didn't find it's way to you, you can find the link to the survey HERE. Have a great weekend!
Respectfully,
Justin Klaassen
Last newsletter was the first update on the work we are doing to get ready for the opening of our Collegiate in the fall of 2025. As I mentioned in the previous newsletter, we are seeking out partnerships to help bring success to our program. As such, we toured through some training shops of the Building Trades of Alberta and met with representatives of The Educational partnership Foundation. We are hoping these partnerships will lead to great outcomes for students in our school and throughout Black Gold.
We are also working hard to create a community information pamphlet and website page for the Collegiate as we know many are starting to wonder what is to come!
If your child will be absent due to illness or appointment, please email:

All school fees have now been added to the student's accounts. Please review your student's school fees in your PowerSchool Parent Account at https://powerschool.blackgold.ca/public Payments are required ASAP!
Payments that are not received before May 1st will be submitted to Black Gold School Division who will then submit them to a collections agency. If you have any questions or concerns about these fees, please contact the school for assistance.
