Hawks,
Some of you may have noticed steel standing up on our Collegiate shop! We are excited to have movement happening after so much time waiting for the structure to arrive! Our contractor is hoping to provide us access to the building as of August 25th, but with the amount of infrastructure that we will need to create in the space, we are planning on starting programming in the new shop in the second semester of the 2025/26 school year.
We are also excited to announce that the Government of Alberta is interested about what is happening in Calmar as well. We are pleased that the Minister of Advanced Education Rajan Sawhney will be visiting our site on June 3rd!
As you can see in the pictures, our Spring Trades Exploration went to the Plumbers & Pipefitters UA Local Union No 488 training centre on Friday. The students explored working with PEX for residential plumbing as well as the basic of Oxy Fuel cutting. It was all around a great day.
The Spring Trades Exploration series is the beginnings of our grade ten Trades Exploration course that we will launch in the fall. We will be adding more trades to the lineup so students can see if they find something they are passionate about!
Finally, we took a trip to Skills Canada Alberta where students were able to check out numerous trades from computer programming to welding. We are also pleased to say that our students swept the podium in Secondary Machining with Dallin Sedlak taking home the gold, Sam Bakker the Silver and James Melnychuk the bronze!
In the Post Secondary Machining category our very own Adam Peterson took home Bronze! Well done to all!
All the best to you and yours!
Respectfully,
Justin Klaassen
