Hawks,
We often talk about winding down this time of year, but some things are already getting going for the fall! Below you will find our Summer/Fall 2025/2026 information letter, our high school schedule for next year, and some introductions from the teachers joining our team next year.
There is also a call to host international students as well as some information about our upcoming casino in the fall (huge thanks to our School Council crew!). Finally, lots of community information for the summer! All the best to all of you, and thank you for sharing your kids with us this year! For those returning in the fall, we look forward to seeing you again; for those moving on to new challenges (looking at you, grads!), all the best on your next steps.
In the meantime, enjoy the sun and take some advice from Ms. Swift! We will talk again when the leaves are getting ready to change.
Respectfully,
Justin Klaassen
My name is Jim Wallis, and I am excited to be joining the Calmar team in the Collegiate. After starting my electrical apprenticeship right out of high school and working in the industry for over a decade, I made a pivot to education. I am eager to pass on my passion for trades and education to the next generation. Although I never imagined moving to Canada, meeting my Edmontonian wife while she was studying in Australia led us to make the move and set up our life here. Outside of school, you'll find me spending time with family and friends or golfing. I am looking forward to this opportunity and to working with the Calmar team. Have a great summer and see you in August!
Mr. Wallis, what obscure thing are you talented at?
Wouldn't say too obscure, however long-distance running/trail running was a passion for quite some time in my 20s
Mr. Wallis, what's a common saying that you don't understand or that you think is odd?
Australians are never short of a saying. Some highlights are - arvo, bludger, good on ya, G'Day. I'm sure there are more.
Mr. Wallis, if one of your parents was the president, what would be their first law?
Everyone has to do a season of farm service prior to starting university.
Mr. Wallis, what fictional character would you be best friends with in real life?
Thor, seems like a good friend to have.
Mr. Wallis, if someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
'Busy being Happy' - have to keep busy with things that make you happy.
I am Ryley Shandro and I am thrilled to be joining the Calmar Hawks in the upcoming school year! I have a background working in rural schools so I know just how lucky I am to be joining this community. I am looking forward to teaching junior high sciences and Chem 20/30. When I was in junior high, I had a teacher help me recognize my passion for the sciences and I hope to do the same for my students! If I am not teaching, I can be found playing soccer, reading, or spending time with my friends and family. I love going home to my cat, Lucy Gray, and spending the evening curled up with her and a good book. I am eager to see what awaits in my next year of teaching at Calmar Secondary School!
Ms. Shandro, what obscure thing are you talented at?
I have pretty much memorized most of the Hunger Games movies!
Ms. Shandro, what's a common saying that you don't understand or that you think is odd?
By the skin of your teeth
Ms. Shandro, if one of your parents were the president, what would be their first law?
Their first law would be to be kind to others.
Ms. Shandro, what fictional character would you be best friends with in real life?
Amy Santiago from Brooklyn 99. We both enjoy organizing things, word puzzles, and true crime!
Ms. Shandro, if someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
" Finding Sunshine", because it's important to look on the bright side and be grateful for the things we have in life.
Hi! I’m Lynnsy Noll and I’m thrilled to be joining the Calmar Collegiate community this fall. I grew up in northern Alberta/BC and have spent the past several years teaching, tutoring, and developing curriculum across various grade levels and subject areas. Recently, I have been a substitute in the local divisions, but I’m excited to bring my passion for creativity, student voice, and inclusive education to the art, drama, and English programs here.
When I’m not in the classroom, you’ll probably find me sewing something sparkly, hiking with a podcast in my ears, or curled up with my orange tabby cat, Sir Paul McCatney. I love supporting students in finding confidence in their expression, whether it’s on stage, on canvas, or on paper, and I can’t wait to see what we’ll create together this year.
What’s your comfort TV show or movie that you always go back to?
Brooklyn 99. I have watched it on repeat from pilot to finale more times than I can count. I have it nearly memorized now.
Miss. Noll, what’s your go-to karaoke song?
You Oughta Know’ by Alannis Morissette. Or, ‘Maybe This Time’ by Liza Minelli from Cabaret.
If your life were a musical, what would the opening number be called?
“But First, Vyvanse”- complete with one hand doing spirit fingers and the other doing jazz hands; and a cat chorus.
What obscure thing are you talented at?
I’m wicked good at trivia. I love Jeopardy! and other general knowledge games. I've won trivia competitions before and got to go to tapings of Jeopardy! in LA as an audience member.
What is a random fact about you?
I purchased one square foot of land in Scotland to be afforded a "landed gentry title." So technically, my name is Lady Lynnsy of Glencoe.
