Since our last newsletter, much has happened at the school! The grade beam has been poured for our eventual Collegiate addition which means work on the structure is getting closer. We celebrated student achievement at our Awards Night. The staff spent a day together learning about Visible Learning. Finally, I took a trip to Calgary to hear about what other Collegiates, Post Secondary's and Alberta Education are thinking about in regard to the development of Collegiates in Alberta. These are all things that take place in addition to everyday learning! Schools are busy places!

One of the things that came up at our Visible Learning day was the need to engage our students in their own learning and how parents can be partners in that goal. One of those ways is in thinking what to encourage in regard to learning. Some of the suggested things to encourage are progress (You didn't know anything about the periodic table last week and now you have a strong understanding), effort (You didn't give up on solving that quadratic equation and you figured it out!), asking for feedback and acting on it (How could I improve on this answer?), and asking questions and showing curiosity (What was the best question you asked today?).

I know I appreciate a bit of a roadmap at times and perhaps these suggested encouragements can guide things for you and yours. Next week we will keep the ball rolling with our Leadership team putting on some Halloween activities throughout the week. It will be fun for all and I know the Leadership Team is always open to new membership! Many hands make light work! You will also see a bit of a look at the future below with posters for our upcoming Career Fair Opportunity at Beaumont Comp (sign up to come with bussing provided) and our Musical Theater Beetlejuice performance! Just another example of the variety of opportunities offered in our fabulous school.
