Hawks,
Every year we send out a "getting to know you" survey to the staff and invariably the majority of staff list Christmas as their favorite holiday. I have occasionally mused about why this is. It is cold and the darkest time of year, why would it be a favorite? Of course part of it is the culture of community that has been created around it. Of Family. I think there is also something to be said for the light of the season shining out from the dark. I love to be around the Christmas tree in the morning. The Christmas Lunch put on by our School Council is a great example of the metaphorical light of the season. I have never been at a school where the whole school is fed in one sitting. Amazing! Make sure to check out the photos the day below!
I truly hope that all of you are able to take time to reflect on the year that has passed over the break. I often take a moment and write in a journal at the end of the year about what went well, what I'd like to work on and what I am just thankful for. While there are always things to work on, I am thankful for so many things! Enjoy the break, see you on January 6th!
Respectfully,
Justin Klaassen
We are excited to announce our monthly fundraising events aimed at supporting students who will be traveling to Italy in November 2025. Your generous contributions are crucial to making this experience possible.
If you wish to support a specific student but are not aware of any individuals, you may contribute to the group fund under the name "Italy 2025." Alternatively, please contact our office for information on individual students who would benefit from your support.
Thank you for your commitment to enriching the educational journey of our students. Your support is greatly appreciated.
The CSS Travel Club put together a holiday-themed recipe book as one of their fundraisers. There are extra recipe books available for purchase in the school office. $15.00/book

Basketball at Calmar Secondary is underway. The Sr. High boys team has been practicing hard for the last couple of weeks and it shows. The Sr. boys are in the Tri-County league and won their first game on Wednesday Dec 11th with a decisive victory over Thorsby by a score of 58 to 12! Great job, boys. The Sr. high boys will be off to Breton for a tournament on the weekend of Dec 13-14th. Good luck to our Sr. high Hawks!
The Jr. high girls and boys teams are also underway with practices and forthcoming exhibition games. The Jr. high boys are looking to play Holy Spirit in an exhibition game before Christmas break and the start of their league. Both the Jr. high girls and boys will be a part of the LDAA basketball league that starts on January 16, 2025. The schedules for both teams will be sent out before the Christmas break so please stay tuned for league games and action. Just a reminder that Jr. high games will be on Thursday nights throughout the season of play.
Thank you to all our basketball coaches that have stepped up to run our teams. Especially Mr. Brehmer (Sr. high), Ms. Read (Jr. high girls) and Mr. Roth and his son Jackson Roth (Jr. high boys).
Yours in sport,
Mr. Rothfos
