1) Time Management: Students are expected to take greater responsibility for managing their time and meeting deadlines. While progress will be closely monitored, and support will be offered if needed, it's essential for everyone to do their best to adhere to all deadlines.
2) Academic Honesty: Integrity is key in all academic work. Students must maintain academic honesty in every aspect of their studies.
3) Independent Learning: Students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning journey, consistently demonstrating initiative and responsibility in their studies.
4) Active Participation: Engagement in class discussions and activities is crucial for a deeper understanding of the material. Students are expected to contribute thoughtfully and actively participate in all classroom activities.
5)Respectful Collaboration: Working effectively with peers is an essential part of the learning experience. Students must show respect towards others' ideas and work collaboratively to achieve common goals, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Skills
In Humanities we will be working to help students develop in the seven following key areas:
Research - Formulate appropriate research questions. Locate, select, organize and record relevant information from a range of print and multimedia resources.
Analysis - Identify perspectives and complexities, interpret data and information to make connections and recognise relationships, patterns and trends.
Evaluation - Evaluate sources within subject context, make connections, assess importance of features and/ or events. Evaluate judgments, decisions and arguments.
Communication - Select varied and appropriate communication methods (including diagrams, short written responses and longer essays) to effectively describe and explain specific subject content. Construct evidence based arguments that demonstrate understanding.
Collaboration - Actively cooperate and engage in teamwork, developing interdependence. Showing awareness and respect for different viewpoints and learning approaches.
Reflection - Consider the benefits and challenges of working in both teams and independently. Examine how personal perspectives on an issue may change. Identify skills learnt or improved during this process.
Subject literacy - Recall knowledge of and use subject specific terminology and vocabulary.
Assessments
Assessment will take place throughout the academic year. Assessment will be undertaken in the following ways:
Formal tests - notice will be given and areas for revision provided
Informal classroom quizzes and checks - notice may be given, but sometimes will be delivered on an ad hoc basis
Classwork and participation - all engagement and tasks allocated for completion during class time can be used to further provide the teacher with information about an individual student's competency and progress
