  • Practise different IGCSE reading task types, including multiple choice, short-answer questions, matching, note-making/summary and information retrieval tasks.

• Writing

  • Plan, draft and organise ideas before writing.

  • Develop essay writing skills, with a major focus on developing, supporting and linking ideas effectively.

  • Practise different IGCSE writing forms, including essays, articles, reports, reviews, letters/emails and other directed writing tasks.

  • Paraphrase information and express ideas in students' own words.

• Vocabulary

  • Develop topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental issues, technology, science and nature.

  • Expand vocabulary for expressing opinions, attitudes, agreement/disagreement and evaluation.

  • Select precise and appropriate vocabulary according to audience and register.

• Language & Grammar

  • Improve accuracy and range in sentence structures.

  • Use appropriate grammatical structures to communicate meaning effectively.

  • Develop cohesion through linking words, referencing and paragraphing.

  • Apply language choices appropriate to purpose, audience and context.

• Mechanics & Conventions

  • Apply accurate spelling, punctuation and capitalisation.

  • Observe conventions of different writing forms.

  • Produce well-organised, coherent and accurate written responses.

Major Term 1 focus: 

Developing students' ability to read beyond the obvious, select and evaluate information, and communicate developed ideas clearly and accurately in IGCSE-style writing, with particular emphasis on essay writing and effective use of evidence, vocabulary and language.
