In Lower Secondary, students are assessed on specific skills which help teachers assess their subject knowledge.

In Humanities we will be working to help students develop in the seven following key areas:
In Humanities we will be working to help students develop in the seven following key areas:
- Research - Formulate appropriate research questions. Locate, select, organise and record relevant information from a range of print and multimedia resources.
- Analysis - Identify perspectives and complexities, interpret data and information to make connections and recognise relationships, patterns and trends.
- Evaluation - Evaluate sources within subject context, make connections, assess importance of features and/ or events. Evaluate judgments, decisions and arguments.
- Communication - Select varied and appropriate communication methods (including diagrams, short written responses and longer essays) to effectively describe and explain specific subject content. Construct evidence based arguments that demonstrate understanding.
- Collaboration - Actively cooperate and engage in teamwork, developing interdependence. Showing awareness and respect for different viewpoints and learning approaches.
- Reflection - Consider the benefits and challenges of working in both teams and independently. Examine how personal perspectives on an issue may change. Identify skills learnt or improved during this process.
- Subject literacy - Recall knowledge of and use subject specific terminology and vocabulary.

Assessment will take place throughout the academic year. Assessment will be undertaken in the following ways:

- Formal tests - notice will be given and areas for revision provided.
- Informal classroom quizzes and checks - notice may be given, but sometimes will be delivered on an ad hoc basis.
- Classwork and participation - all engagement and tasks allocated for completion during class time can be used to further provide the teacher with information about an individual student's competency and progress.

- All day to day communication with students takes place in the Google classrooms. Please accept any invites you have been sent to join classrooms.
- Students are using their Humanities copybook and are expected to keep a neat and organized copybook that reflects their daily learning happening in the classroom.
- The below outline is an overview of the topics that we hope to cover over the course of the academic year.
- Students will be issued with a BOOST learning account which contains the online text book and resources which provides the foundation for our geographical enquiry unit.
