Our Year 10 English as a Second Language (ESL) programme follows the Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language curriculum, providing students with the language skills, confidence, and independence needed for success in their first IGCSE year.

The course is designed to develop students’ ability to communicate effectively and accurately in English across a range of real-life and academic contexts. Students will engage with a variety of texts and topics while developing the skills needed to succeed in their IGCSE examinations and beyond.

The curriculum focuses on four key areas:

• Reading – developing comprehension, vocabulary, inference, and understanding of different texts.

• Writing – developing accuracy, organisation, and effective communication for different purposes and audiences.

• Speaking – building confidence and fluency through discussions, presentations, and spoken tasks.

• Listening – developing the ability to understand, interpret, and respond to a range of spoken texts and situations.

As this is the students’ first year of IGCSE, emphasis will also be placed on developing effective study habits, exam skills, independence, and confidence in using English.
