ITComm Future Committees

As the ITComm Constituent Group grows and the Cabinet develops, leadership development should include volunteer positions for a variety of committees that serve the interest and needs of the ITComm CG. Future committees could include:

ITComm CG Engagement Committee

Pull members into various committees, give them small, one-time jobs, see how it went, do they want to do something else in the future

    • Chair - recruits committee members from surveys or direct recruiting, determines how to best engage ITComm CG members in one-time jobs for any of the group’s activities (supper clubs to coffee shops)

    • Estimated time: 4 hours, April - September; 3 hours, October-May

    • Estimated time: 4 hours, August - May.

Coffee Shop Committee

Arrange speakers or facilitators for open mic sessions for at least four (4) sessions each academic year (Sept - April); this committee is probably the largest because each coffee shop requires so many resources.

    • Co-Chairs (2-3 recommended) Serve as EDUCAUSE liaisons - arrange Adobe Connect session on their tech support calendar. Identify and coordinate Presenters. Recruit and assign 2-3 committee members to each of the following roles:

    1. Facilitator - introduces presenter, facilitates Q&A, can change or be consistent

    2. Tech host - manages Adobe Connect session

    3. Scribe - takes notes during coffee shop, sends to Librarian

    4. Librarian - publishes the scribed notes in the ITComm wiki, sends announcement and link to the ITComm list

    5. Promoter - advertise the coffee shop, connect with Engagement Chair for other CGs

    • Estimated time for each Co-Chair: 4 hours, September - April; 1 hour summer meeting (June-August)

Conference Presentations Committee

Ensures several proposals are aligned for submission for the fall Annual Conference (submission deadline is usually January). Recruit and align presentation panel volunteers by topic of interest, engage volunteer mentors for each topic group.

    • Co-Chairs (2) recommended due to potentially large number (25) of volunteers and mentors required to field several panel presentations. Recruit committee members from surveys or direct recruiting. Call for proposal topic ideas during the Annual Conference CG meeting and by survey for 7-10 days following the Annual Conference. Call for volunteers interested in presenting on these topics. Recruit mentors for the topics to guide each panel; not required to present with the panel.

    • Estimated time for each Co-Chair: 4 hours, October-December

Connect Presentation Committee

Ensures several proposals are aligned for submission for the spring regional Connect events. Remember, some presenters submit proposals based on calendar, not proximity. (submission deadline is usually September - October). Recruit and align presentation panel volunteers by topic of interest, engage volunteer mentors for each topic group. May work with EDUCAUSE to identify successful content leaders from previous Connect events who can share tips for the interactive session activities

    • Co-Chairs (1 for each Connect event) Recruit committee members from surveys or direct recruiting. Call for proposal topic ideas during July and August. Call for volunteers interested in presenting on these topics. Recruit mentors for the topics to guide each panel; not required to present with the panel.

    • Estimated time for each Co-Chair: 4 hours, July - September

Advertising/Awareness

Increase awareness of CG group at Annual Conference and Connect events. This committee drives interest in the group, with the goal of attracting new members through referral by CIOs and colleagues who may be attending the annual events.

    • Chair - recruits committee members from surveys or direct recruiting, determines best ways to increase awareness of the ITComm group among the Educause membership

    • Estimated time: 4 hours, October - April
