Dear Student Success Analytics Community Members –
It's the time of year where the Student Success Analytics Community Group (SSA CG) looks forward to fresh perspectives and shifting roles in our community. In October, I will be stepping out of the chair role and into the outgoing chair position. I am very pleased to announce that Deb Anderson, the Vice Chancellor for Student Success at Ivy Tech Community College, will be assuming the Chair role and Andy Miller, Principal Education Consultant at Blackboard, will be stepping into the incoming chair role. Both Deb and Andy have contributed to the success of building the SSA CG out and I'm looking forward to see where their leadership will take us. We will also see two additional members transitioning off of the steering committee: Lou Harrison from North Carolina State University will be rolling off into glorious retirement and Bryan Bell will be taking a sabbatical from the SC as he focuses on a new role he is taking on at Aviso Retention. The SSA CG is lucky to be able to retain Ian Dolphin, the Executive Director of Apereo Foundation, Mitchell Colver, the Manager of the Center for Students Analytics at Utah State University, and Linda Feng, Software Architect at Unicon as invaluable members of the steering committee. Finally, Kathe Pelletier, Director of Student Success Programs at EDUCAUSE will continue to serve as our ad hoc (EDUCAUSE) steering committee member. I want to take a moment and thank everyone from the inaugural steering committee for giving your time and talents as we established a routine for this newly emerging community group. Thank you all for taking this journey!
These changes bring exciting opportunities for new contributing members! The SSA CG is seeking nominations (or self-nominations) to join our steering committee (SC). The SSA CG SC is committed to diversity and seeks different perspectives, experiences, and expertise in its SC membership and thus encourages anyone with a passion for student success analytics to consider serving in the rewarding role. The only requirement for serving in this role is that you are an active EDUCAUSE member. We welcome contributions from educational institutions as well as other partners. As a relatively new group, our SC processes are still evolving, but for the last 18 months we have gained momentum by assigning SC members to help lead one of five major domains:
· Promotions of SSA CG—this domain focuses on getting new membership, promoting the CG in different venues, and seeking sponsorship for various activities
· Communication and engagement – this domain focuses on keeping as steady stream of communication, via various channels, moving through the community
· Webinars—this domain focuses on bringing high quality webinars to the community
· Outreach (with a focus on international connections) – this domain focuses on bringing members and information into the community with a non US-centric lens
· Resource-Hub—this domain focuses on curating and creating meaningful resources for the community and making them available in an easily consumable fashion
Steering committee member will play a pivotal leadership role and will work collaboratively to make the SSA CG a vibrant community. Steering committee appointments are for 3 years, unless one rotates into a chairship, and begin each year at the EDUCAUSE Annual Meeting (please note you do NOT have to be in attendance to be appointed to the SC). The SC meets online twice a month and has the following responsibilities:
· Work with the CG Chairs to provide value, grow momentum, and set direction for the SSA CG
· Work collaboratively with at least one other SC member to focus effort in one of the five domains described above
· Engage and respectfully promote the SSA CG
· Be welcoming stewards of the SSA CG
If you are interested in serving on the steering committee or would like to nominate someone, please email me (kimberly.arnold@wisc.edu) by the 23rd of August expressing your interest. I will then follow up with all nominees to discuss next steps in the process.
Thank you for your consideration!
Kim
