Message 1b - Planned Storage Outage

Storage.university.edu will be unavailable from 7pm Friday, January 4 through 7am, Saturday January 5 during a maintenance window. Applications which will be off line during this window include:

    • Personal and shared storage drives for storage.university.edu

    • OWL-Space

    • Owlnet computational servers

    • web pages remaining in www.labs.university.edu (most have migrated to IT Tutorials, which will also be offline)

    • Exchange (mail service used by Business School and some other groups)

    • FAMIS, FE&P's online work-order processing tool

    • EMS - University Event Management System, including room reservations

    • CMS 400, web content management system

    • Sharepoint

    • University Portal (my.university.edu)

    • IT Tutorials (docs.university.edu)

    • Plone

    • svn.rice.edu (Hipersoft, Computer Science applications)

    • eProject (IT project management application)

During this January 2008 maintenance window and as part of the move from the downtown data center to the primary data center, University files and data which will be migrated to their permanent storage servers.Except for the down time for these systems and applications, we do not anticipate any other impact for the University computing community. University email and Oracle calendar services are not affected. This data migration is a necessary part of IT's system and network preparations for the spring semester. Customer usage statistics show that this time frame affects the fewest University community members. If you notice any connectivity issues when you return to campus on Monday, please contact the Help Desk at helpdesk.rice.edu or 713.348.HELP(4357).
