Deb Anderson, Vice Chancellor for Student Success, Ivy Tech Community College

Deb has worked in Student Affairs for the majority of her professional career, with the last 12 years as Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs/Vice Chancellor for Student Success at Ivy Tech Community College. She offers experience in defining student development outcomes through the use of technology, and has exhibited strong interest in utilizing technology and institutional data to enhance the student experience.

Bryan Bell, Chief Data Scientist, Aviso Retention

For the past 12 years, Bryan has worked with in Higher Education Enrollment Management as a predictive analytics consultant and now more recently as Chief Data Scientist for Aviso Retention. During this time his focus has been to create custom analytic processes for customers in order to support and manage predictive models for recruitment and retention efforts on campus.

Ian Dolphin, Executive Director, Apereo Foundation

Ian Dolphin is the Executive Director of the Apereo Foundation, an international non-profit membership organization that seeks to support the academic mission by stimulating the creation and sustenance of open source software for education. Apereo software supports learning analytics activity at a national level in the UK, institutional and state-wide initiatives in the US, and major pilot activity in France. Ian believes voices for openness are essential as we progress from learning analytics software focused around retention, towards intelligent sequencing of learning content, and provision of personalized pathways to better support student success.

Linda Feng, Software Architect, Unicon

Linda is a software architect at Unicon, Inc., a provider of education technology consulting services. She has spent the majority of her career working with student information systems (SIS) integration, open standards, and big data/ learning analytics. She has served on several IMS Global Learning Consortium working groups and task force committees, including, IMS Caliper, Learning Information Services/OneRoster, and Privacy. Linda’s goal for the SSA CG is to enable our community to collaborate and share our work, to pave the way for more initiatives to move forward — each new project learning from the projects that went before it.

Lou Harrison, Director of Educational Technology Services for Distance Education and Learning Technology Applications (DELTA), NC State University

He and his team manage, maintain, install, integrate, and develop technology that NC State uses for teaching and learning at scale. In conjunction with Marist College and Unicon, his team is implementing an open source early warning alert system predictive analytics system. He was a founding member of the Open Knowledge Initiative (OKI), and has served in an advisory capacity to several learning technology companies. He is an ACM Senior Member and an ACM SIGGRAPH Pioneer.

Andy Miller, Director of Academic Advising & Retention, Concordia University Wisconsin

As the Director of Academic Advising & Retention at Concordia University Wisconsin, Andy has been helped bridge the gap between technical and functional for Concordia University Wisconsin’s analytics integration. Through the use of analytics, his team has been able to identify high academic-risk students before the semester begins and intentionally connect with them to proactively intervene, as well as provide the advising community with concise data and concrete steps to intervene with underperforming students.
