Course Information Evening for 2025 is Wednesday 6th August. Subject information is current for 2026
The areas of study for Auslan comprise themes and topics, grammar, informal and formal signed text types and vocabulary in both formal and informal settings. Through the themes and topics covered in both units, students complete a variety of tasks and activities which show their understanding. Grammar, vocabulary and signed text types add a further layer of definition to knowledge and skills to achieve success in this subject.
Students are also required to investigate in detail a selected sub-topic studied throughout the year. This investigation will form the basis for discussion during Section 2 of the Oral Examination. The investigation should enable the student to explore and compare aspects of the language and culture of the Italian-speaking community, environmental issues or youth concerns in contemporary society through a range of oral, written or viewed texts in Italian related to the selected sub-topic. This will enable the student to develop knowledge and understanding of, for example, historical issues, aspects of contemporary society or the literary or artistic heritage of the community.
The texts which form the basis of this study might include feature films, short films, short stories, songs, newspaper articles, electronic texts, documentaries, music, painting and oral histories
