In this Unit students actively engage in art making. Outcome 1 and 2 make up the SAT - School Assessed Task. This is the Folio assessment.
The Unit is framed around the following Inquiry Questions
How do artists use selected art forms and ideas to create visual language?
How are ideas, reflection and feedback used in art making to develop artworks?
How are artworks selected and presented for exhibition?
The SAT - Folio Assessment focuses on the following:
Artistic and Personal Research
Investigate and research three established artists and their practices
Investigation and analysis of the selected artists visual language in their artworks
Investigate and research personal inspiration
Art Making
Students select a specific art form to investigate and experiment with their art making skills. They focus on:
Materials, techniques and processes
Subject Matter and communication of ideas
Aesthetic Qualities
Visual Language
Investigate their inspiration, influences and connections from their three established artist research
Create and make two experimental artworks
Document, reflect and annotate their art making
Their exploration and experimentation is documented in both visual and written form in a Visual Arts folio.
Critique and Reflection
Students present their Folio and experimental artworks to their peers seeking constructive feedback for their art making for Unit 4.
After the critique students evaluate their feedback from their peers and write an Evaluation Statement that defines their ideas for refinement for their artwork
Outcome 3 is the theoretical component in which the students will complete a SAC. Students investigate and research:
The roles and responsibilities of a Curator in an Art Gallery context.
Curatorial considerations when selecting artworks for an exhibition
Didactics
Characteristics of exhibition spaces
Exhibition design factors
Relationships and connections of artworks on display
Students visit art galleries and a variety of exhibition spaces to understand how artworks are presented
Working in the role of a Curator the students research, plan and present an exhibition of their three established Artists and their artworks from Outcome.
In this Unit students make connections to the artworks they made in Unit 3. They consolidate and extend on their ideas and art making to refine and resolve artworks in a specific art form.
Unit 4 has three learning Outcomes and ‘Inquiry’ based questions that frame the learning of the Area of Study.

How are ideas presented in finished artwork on exhibition?
What role does conservation and care have in the presentation of artworks?

Students document their art making in the folio and reflect and annotate on their progress:
Document, reflect and annotate their art making
Their exploration and experimentation is documented in both visual and written form in a Visual Arts folio.
Presentation of Artwork(s) in an Exhibition
Students organise the presentation of their finished artworks and make decisions on artwork display.
Research about the proposed presentation of the resolved artwork(s) for an exhibition
Conservation and Care of own Artwork
Investigate and research the conservation needs for their individual artwork
Critique and Reflection:
Students present a critique of their artworks and receive and reflect on feedback
Outcome 3 is the theoretical component in which the students will complete a SAC. They continue to engage with Art Galleries. Students investigate and examine:
Methods and considerations involved in the presentation, conservation and care of artworks
Compare conservation considerations of artworks from a visited exhibition with their own artwork
Students visit art galleries and a variety of exhibition spaces to understand how Art Galleries apply conservation methods to protect artworks

Learning Outcome
Collect information from artists and artworks in specific art forms to develop subject matter and ideas in their own art making.

Learning Outcome
Make artworks in specific art forms, prepare and present a critique, and reflect on feedback.
Outcome 3 - Connect - Curate, Design and Propose
Learning Outcome
Research and plan an exhibition of the artworks of three artists.
Outcome 1 - Consolidate - Refine and Resolve
Learning Outcome
Refine and resolve at least one finished artwork in a specific art form and document the materials, techniques and processes used in art making.
Outcome 2 - Present - Plan and Critique
Learning Outcome
Plan and display at least one finished artwork in a specific art form, and present a critique.
Outcome 3 - Conserve - Present and Care
Learning Outcome
Understand the presentation, conservation and care of artworks, including the conservation and care of their own artworks.
Examination: VCCA Examination
Students are required to have the following equipment for this course:
A3 Folio
A4 Writing Book
Basic Art Materials
Students will also visit galleries and exhibitions as part of the course in Unit 3 and 4.
Art Making and Exhibiting VCE Requirements
Students must visit or view a minimum of two exhibitions during the current year of study.
Exhibitions studied must be from different art spaces.
Students must select one exhibition space for study in Unit 3 and a different exhibition space for study in Unit 4.
