Year 9 students continue to study a common curriculum, with the opportunity to select and learn more about other elective subjects.
Requirements:
All students complete the following core subjects in Year 9: English, Maths, Humanities, Science, Technology (Digital Technology and Design Technology), Art (Visual Art and Visual Communication Design), Focus Group and Lead Day.
All students will be enrolled in four electives, made up of two electives in Semester One and two electives in Semester Two.
Students will nominate their preferred four electives, as well as two back-up electives.
The order you nominate your electives in is important - so put your most favourite elective first!

This Visual Arts subject is about you!!! You will have the opportunity to explore and express your own ideas, themes and concepts, that are inspired by art movements, artists, and creatives. You will be working in both 2D and 3D art forms to create unique artworks. Students will be required to use their art kits in this subject.
Students will extend and develop their media production and analysis skills. Assessment may include one or more of the following: film (e.g. music video), animation (e.g. stop motion), photography, and publication design (e.g. magazine).
Ever wanted to join a rock band? This is your opportunity to perform in a band. You will also be involved in listening, performing and songwriting. Active participation is required in this elective.
During the semester, students engage in a range of theory and practical theatre and dance-based classes. They work as part of a group to design, develop and present a play. The group are required to learn the craft as actors, stage management, lighting and audio technicians. Performances will be brought to life through a combination of workshops and rehearsals. Students also develop knowledge in dance practice and learn about different performance styles. They will learn and perfect routines as well as work in small groups to choreograph their own dances.
Coaching streams will be determined once the student cohort is established. These squads may include AFL, Netball, Basketball &/or Fitness. The program involves specialist coaching and training as well as sessions designed to improve fitness, both within and outside of the school environment. The structure of the program involves both practical and theory sessions. Students are expected to achieve and maintain a high level of fitness, skills and leadership across the college in order to be involved in the program. To be selected into the program, students must meet the criteria of the program, in relation to sports participation, personal attributes, academic progress and leadership. This subject has a cost of $250/year which covers external facility hire, entry fees, bus hire, excursions, coaches etc.
Students will learn about factors that influence mental health and wellbeing, investigating disorders and diseases and investigating treatment and coping strategies to improve mental wellbeing. They will learn about life-long fitness activities, promoting continuous health through a range of age demographics and investigate methods to maintain physical activity. Students will also gain an understanding of the link between physical and mental health and wellbeing through activities such as yoga, mindfulness & holistic recreational pursuits.
Students will have the opportunity to learn about and participate in a diverse array of sports from across the world and explore the positive impact sport can have on communities. Dependant on accessibility and availability, sports may include, Bocce, Tchouk Ball, Speedball, Ultimate Frisbee, Yoga, Thai-Chi, Wheelchair basketball and vision-impaired sports. Community experiences and incursions may occur at an additional cost throughout the semester. Students will also explore social and cultural practices through physical activity, including the contributions of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people to sport in Australia.
An elective that includes the basis of economics, maths and business studies. Students will look at small business models and business plans alongside the running of the stock exchange and the global market systems. Students will develop practical money literacy and develop their own small business plans.
Students will investigate different forms of news media and how bias and media manipulation can influence audiences. Students will consider the form and purpose of different styles of writing in the media and will write a range of texts suitable for a newspaper or magazine.
Students extend and develop their Italian skills learnt in Years 7 & 8 through language and cultural experiences, by developing practical conversational Italian, alongside developing written fluency. This elective is a pathway into Year 10 and VCE Italian in Years 11 and 12.
Students will investigate body systems and compare the structure and function of different animals. They will investigate innate, learned and social behaviour as well as how animals communicate and adapt to their environment. Students will complete dissections, create body system models and investigate functioning at a cellular level.
Forensic Science involves the application of forensic science principles to solve crime scenes through the analysis of evidence. This includes blood splatter, fingerprints and fibre and hair analysis. Students will look at entomology, which includes studying the life cycle of flies and how it helps solve crimes.
If you are a ‘high flier’ STEM is the subject for you. STEM will introduce you to the design and inquiry and construction processes needed to solve problems, build rockets and make cars go fast! Students will use a range of technologies to construct projects and collect data. Examples of projects include electric fan-powered cars, wind turbines, and water-powered rockets.
