In this unit, students will take on the role of a designer, using the Double Diamond design process to investigate a real personal, local, or global need or opportunity with clear ethical considerations. Through research, they will develop product concepts and a final proof of concept that addresses the needs and opportunities of end users. Throughout the unit, students will consider factors influencing design, sustainable practices, and levels of manufacturing.
Area of Study 1 - influences on design, development and production of products
Area of Study 2 - Investigating opportunities for ethical design and production
Area of study 3 – Developing a final proof of concept for ethical production
Students will continue to work as designers using the Double Diamond design process, applying a range of materials, tools, and processes safely and responsibly. They will monitor and document their progress, justifying decisions and any modifications made throughout the design process. Additionally, students will explore ways to engage with end users to gather and apply feedback to improve their designs.
