Australian History concentrates on the place of Australia in global history through the 20th and early 21st centuries. Students explore the world wars of the 20th century including Australia’s role in these. It examines the pivot to focussing on human rights following the atrocities of the Second World War and how this influenced Indigenous peoples fight for rights and freedoms in the newly federated 'Australia'. Students finish the semester subject by investigating how a major global influence has shaped the Australian society we experience today.
Australia at War 1914-1945 Students learn about Australia's evolving involvement in WW1 and WW2 and the impact on Australia society. The depth of study explores significant places and events, the causes and consequences of being involved in each of the world wars and the continuities and changes experienced as a result of both world wars on a newly federated country.
Rights and Freedoms 1945 - Present day The students explore Indigenous rights and freedoms in depth of study two and compare and contrast the events that took place in Australia verses those in America. They closely study the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Australia's part in developing this important document and their struggle at times to meet the articles expectations in regards to the Indigenous Australians rights and freedoms.
The Globalising World The final depth of study in Australian History explores the evolving and ever-changing 'Australian Society' and how the changes in society over the 20th century has impacted and influenced the Australia we know.
