Track and field athletes have had a notable year of individual and team performances as they go into districts and state meets.
Sophomore Faysal Ibraham ran a 3:56 1500 meter at the Wilsonville Invitational, breaking a 52-year-old school record. Junior Ariya Abdulla ran a 300 meter hurdles in 43.92, the 23rd all-time in state history. Sophomore Beatrice Dormezil has been ranked second in state in the discus, and second in district in shot putt.
At the last home meet against Sandy, Ariya Abdullah placed first in the 100 meter at 12.71. Senior Kelcey Giltimag PR’d in both 100 meter hurdles, placing first at 17.93. In the 300 meter hurdles, sophomore Zoe Scotland placed first at 51.75. Freshman Kiki Yaslam PR’d in second place at 53.58.
In field events, Dormezil won the discus at 115’ 5”, placed second in javelin at 80’ 3” and third in shot put at 28’ 2.5”. Senior Genesis Larios won the shot putt at 31’ 1.5”. Senior Ja’lan Abdullah won the high jump at 4’ 8”. Sophomore Biance Brambila PR’d, placing second at 4’ 8”.
Senior Sincere Nathan PR’d in the 200 meter, placing second at 22.38. Senior Ismail Ali PR’d in the 400 meter, placing second at 53.23. Sophomore Nathan Cunningham PR’d in the 3000 meter, placing second at 10:52.50. Junior Rowan Cullins PR’d in the 110 meter hurdle at 16.39, placing second. Freshman Darius Aron PR’d at 16.60, placing third.
At the Dean Nice Invitational, Ariya Abdullah placed second in the 100 meter hurdle finals at 14.61. Larios PR’d in shot put, placing seventh at 33’ 3”. Dormezil placed fifth in discus at 112’ 11” and eighth in shot putt at 32’ 1.5”
Junior Ben Streips PR’d in the 110 meter hurdle, placing eighth at 15.47, and PR’d in 300 meter hurdle, placing sixth at 40.14. Senior Sincere Nathan, Ben Streips, junior Ahmad Ames, and senior Jayce Fowler placed fourth in the 4x100 relay at 42.88. Ahmad Ames Pr’d in the long jump, placing fourth at 21’ 3.75”.
“It’s a great year with the leadership of seniors and the multiple school records achieved this year.” said head coach Joseph Cornet. “We’re motivated and excited because the district is a part of the year and we hope it continues to pay off.”
