It was early in the morning and the sky had a chilly dim lighting, but that didn't stop 182 students from the class of 2026 from going to school early to watch the sunrise on their last first day of their DDHS career.
Forty two more seniors than last year came to Palermini Stadium for the Senior Sunrise on the first day of the school year, Sept. 3, from 6:30 to 7:30.
The student council put in much of the work for this event. Senior class president Lydia Yidego did “most of the planning and promotion" and put in quite a bit of “personal time,” according to activities director Kelsey Stiff.
For food and drink there were donuts, juice, and coffee. Seniors played games like cornhole and spikeball and threw volleyballs around.
“It was really fun,” said student body president Jacob Hall. “Most people decided to chill. We had a really nice sunrise, and it was really nice seeing everyone get together.”
