After weeks of campaigning, the results of the Associated Student Body election are in.
Next year’s ASB officers will be ASB President Jacob Hall, Vice President of Spirit Tina Nguyen, Vice President of Athletics Abigail Cram, Vice president of Community Engagement Talia Ruiz Gomez, Vice President of Equity and Wellness Claire Busi, Head of Communications Terayn Kimmons, Treasurer Zora Drake, Senior Class President Lydia Yihdego, Junior Class President Lana Ha and Sophomore Class President Marley Higgins. Run by activities director Kelsey Stiff, the ASB members will work for and give representation to the student body of all classes.
This school year saw a variety of campaign engagement with candidates writing notes on Dee’s Cafe drinks, creating spontaneous posters all around campus and making promotional videos and mottos. “Who can cheer better than a cheerleader!?” asked VP of Spirit Tina Nguyen.
ASB officers have a wide variety of responsibilities like having to attend monthly School Board meetings and ASB meetings.
They officers also are involved in monthly Dad’s Club meetings, consistent appearances and support of all David Douglas sports events from the VP of Athletics, working with the VP of Spirit in helping to start chants, consistent club attendance and activity meetings from the VP of Community Engagement, collaborations with the chairperson of the Presidential council in support from the Equity and Wellness team, financial budgeting and controlled aspects from the Treasurer, social media updates and PR representation from the Head of Communications with help the help of the PR team and finally communication and representation for each class from the Senior, Junior and Sophomore Class Presidents.
“ASB is important because they get to represent us in situations the school may not know about,” said current ASB President Melissa Kate.“I got to be the face of the school and represent diversity but also my personal opinions and advocate for myself and my culture, making sure that my voice isn’t just my voice, but other students’ as well.”
