In early May, the music department competed in the OMEA Ensemble and OSAA State Solo championships, and senior trombonist Simon Pinniger and senior trumpeter Nelson Santos-Cime won multiple awards.
While all of the groups succeeded at their performances, among them were two standout performances. Pinniger and Santos-Cime won the OMEA Small Brass Ensemble division at the OMEA Ensemble championships on May 2 at MHCC. The two received coaching from the assistant director Danny Fineman which assisted them in snagging their win.
The two also competed in the OSAA Solo Contest at PSU on May 3. Pinniger won first place, and Santos-Cime received third.
“To even make it to these events takes talent and hours of dedicated practice,” stated director of bands Jennifer Brooks. “To place at the top— this is truly an accomplishment!”
The Symphonic Strings and Symphony Orchestra just competed at the OSAA State Symphony Contest on Wednesday at OSU, and the Wind Ensemble will compete on Saturday the 17th at 4:15pm.
Spring concerts are coming soon to the PAC, with choirs performing on May 20 at 7 PM, Orchestras on the 21st at 7 PM, Percussion Ensemble and Bands on the 22nd at 6:30, and District Jazz Night on the 29th at 7. All concerts are free.
