In recent years, Generation Alpha has become more prevalent in the public eye. Someone may hear of their slang and it makes some cringe at that, but I believe people should try to look at Generation Alpha from a different lens.
Gen Alpha is not having an easy go of it, they are not only the first generation to be fully in the 21st generation but also most likely using technology from a very young age due to covid making everything go online and the sheer presence of technology in our world
Gen Alpha is also flying under many people’s radars, with some students and staff not knowing who or what they are even though they will be teaching or working alongside them, “I didn’t even know they existed until last week,” said English teacher Brian Graham.
Gen Alpha is still quite young with the oldest of them being in middle school and the youngest still being born, compared to the ages of Generation Z which ranges from 30 year olds to 12 year olds.
When it comes to other things like what they watch and what slang they use, look at what you used to watch and what you used to say. People start out different than where they end, that’s just cold hard facts.
According to Britannica.com, by 2025 there are expected to be more than 2 billion people in Gen Alpha, with a rough estimate of 2.8 million members of Gen Alpha being born every week. This truly shows that Gen Alpha isn’t even finished growing in population, and still have a lot of time before any generation should make any statements on who they are and what they’ll be.
Ageism between generations is as common as can be, with it being almost a birthright for a generation to despise the one that comes after them so certain members of Gen Z disliking members of Gen Alpha is the same as Gen X disliking Gen Y or Millennials.
All in all, try to look at Gen Alpha, Gen X or really any generation with understanding instead of fearing what you don’t understand. Attempt to realize that every generation is different from the last, with differing circumstances, technology, global affairs and more.
