DDHS’s boys cross country team made waves at the Mt. Hood Conference District Championship
On Nov. 1, DDHS had an impromptu assembly to commemorate the many student athletes and sports teams this season who have either done remarkable feats or are going to be competing in a competition.
This year’s varsity volleyball team is full of hard-working student-athletes, with 11 of the 15 girls on the team were first-year varsity athletes and everyone did an amazing job of stepping up to the challenge.
Nevayah Samuels recently represented David Douglas at the OCCA All-State competition, where she earned her spot in the finals, competing in person in an all-day competition against some of the best athletes in Oregon. Samuels made the 6A All-State team, which means she is officially one of the top 15 cheer athletes in the state of Oregon.
Farhan Ibrahim kicked off the season by winning the first Mt. Hood Conference Meet, and at the District Championship he placed 2nd overall, qualifying him for the State Meet on November 9th. Additionally Ibrahim set a new school record in the 5 Kilometer with a time of 15 minutes and 27 seconds as well as earning First Team All-League honors!
One of the non athletic subjects discussed was the ‘Smarty Pants’ award that was given out to students who recently had earned a 4.0 GPA this school year. In total there were 221 ‘Smarty Pants’ award recipients this fall.
The DDHS stunt group dominated this season and made First Team All-League for the Mt. Hood Conference, with star players Nataliya Vasquez, Helena Lopez, Elisa Vizzuett, Tina Nguyen, and Adyson Elliott.
In more cheer news, Sabine Surel, Klowi Sloan, and Ady Gonzalez, all were able to make Second Team All-League for the Mt. Hood Conference with Vasquez going further and proceeding to additionally win the entire non-tumbling division.
DDHS’s boys cross country team made waves at the Mt. Hood Conference District Championship by going into the championship in 7th and shocking onlookers by finishing in 4th place.
DDHS’s girls water polo team also did a remarkable feat of qualifying for playoffs with only eight players, compared to the boys water polo team with significantly more players.
Back in October, the boys water polo team dominated the Dan Berry Tournament and brought home the championship title. They are going to compete at the State Tournament on Nov. 5 led by star players Senior Isaac Campbell and Junior Luka Bagaric.
The boys soccer team recently finished 2nd in a conference with a respectable record of 5 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie. Our girls soccer team had a season of achievements like reaching the most wins with a total of 10, their first time hosting a playoff game which was against Cleveland on saturday, ranking top 10 in state, and finishing the season with a win against Barlow.
