Girls wrestling placed sixth at the 6A District Regionals against 24 other teams at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland, and finished with numerous placers, state participants and a champion.
The team scored 123 points, with junior Sequoia Chorn qualifying as a meet champion.
“Sequoia Chorn was able to dominate this weekend, pinning every opponent in sight and pin her way to a regional championship,” coach Johnnie Martinez-Isaac said. “She did not give up a single point throughout the tournament.”
Sophomore Faith Williams placed second, at 132-144, and also ended as a state qualifier.
Fourth place was unior Saray Alfaro, who also ended as Douglas’s third state qualifier.
Fifth place went to junior Esmeralda Irbe Ramirez 128-134, and Sixth place to junior Zeyra Guzman Rosales.
“My hope for state is to make sure we learn from our matches, win or lose,” Martinez-Isaac said. “Our three participants are all returning next year, meaning they’ll all get another go.”
Boys wrestling faced off against Gresham Barlow on the 6th, winning 4 of 14 matches. Junior Milo Jimenez-Buerkle won, in an MD of 13-4. Junior Jeremiah Pilat won his match against Barlow. Amaziah Brown won, pinning at 5:52. Sophomore Tyler Hockett also won against Barlow.

“From here to the end of the season our goal is to just make tweaks, No major changes at this point,” Martinez-Issac said. “And finally I hope I can get some cool footage on my new Meta Glasses for my TikTok page. Go follow!”
