With the winter sport season coming to a close and the spring season approaching, flag football prepares for its second season.

With the winter sport season coming to a close and the spring season approaching, flag football prepares for its second season.
Last year, Douglas was the 16th seed going into playoffs and went on a Cinderella run to make it to the semi-finals. This is the first year flag football will be in partnership with OSAA, being in the “Emerging Activities.”
This year there will be a JV team, getting more athletes involved and refining skills and knowledge from last year.
Tryouts will be on March 2nd-4th, Monday will be on grass field behind the tennis court at 3 p.m., and Tuesday and Wednesday will be at 5 p.m. on the turf.
Senior Alondra Lara is from Hawaii, and came to Douglas in Oct. 2023 and wants to try out for the flag football team. “I used to play a lot when I was younger with my older brother,” Lara said. “I hope we win again, and go to state.”
Senior Kimberly Perez Velasco played as a junior last year in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She played center on offense and defensive back on defense. She moved to Oregon over the summer and ran cross country in the fall.
“When I first played flag football I thought, I belong in this sport,” Perez Velasco said. “It’s awesome.”
and the boys took a crushing defeat 15-2. Junior Luka Bagaric made first team all-conference and was goalie of the year, senior Troy Van Rys made second team, as well as senior Nathan Nguyen and junior Nathan Vuong.
The girls faced Sunset in the first round of the playoffs, losing in 16-12. Girls senior Lucia Caro and junior Molly Arancibia were selected first team all conference. Sophomore Tierney King was selected second team all conference.
