The cheer team placed third in the 6A Game day Cheerleading State Competition, in the largest cheer division in Oregon, on Feb. 14.
Despite facing difficulties and changes throughout the season due to injuries and illness, the team managed to persevere and place third while being new to the division. The varsity team has been placing high all season leading up to state, placing first at Tualatin Last Chance, a state qualifying event a week before state.
After intensive practices multiple times a week the weeks before state, the team scored a 78.5, just .5 below second place and one point below first.
“Our goal is to keep on going, to keep as many kids on as we can,” said cheer coach Mikyla Pruett, “And bring home more trophies in the shape of Oregon.”
While the cheerleading competitive season is over, they will continue to perform for the rest of the basketball season.
