Girls soccer and boys and girls water polo teams made state playoff appearances, and boys cross country’s Faysal Ibrahim placed 5th in state.
Continuing his momentum from districts with a 1st place finish with a 15:25.60, sophomore Faysal Ibrahim placed 5th in state with a school record of 15:23.99, beating his brother Farhan’s time from last year by only one second.
Girls soccer returned to the playoffs after a historic season last year where they made a deep playoff run to the quarterfinals for the first time.
This is their first time making a playoff appearance back to back. They finished 4th in the MHC with 4-2-1 league record and placed 13th in state.
The girls lost to Ida B. Wells 3-0 in the first round. Junior midfielder Angie Duran was selected as a 1st team all-conference, as well as junior forward Ariya Abdullah. Sophomore midfielder Marley Higgins and junior defender Ayla Mager were 2nd team all-conference..
The boys and girls water polo teams found success in the regular season, which led to playoff appearances. The boys took on Sheldon in the first round and beat them 14-12 advancing to the quarterfinals.
Meeting them in the quarterfinals was Lake Oswego, and the boys took a crushing defeat 15-2. Junior Luka Bagaric made first team all-conference and was goalie of the year, senior Troy Van Rys made second team, as well as senior Nathan Nguyen and junior Nathan Vuong.
The girls faced Sunset in the first round of the playoffs, losing in 16-12. Girls senior Lucia Caro and junior Molly Arancibia were selected first team all conference. Sophomore Tierney King was selected second team all conference.
