U.S. President Donald Trump both shamelessly dislikes and disrespects the US Constitution. This is proven through his sharings of opinions and expressions that insinuate he disagrees with said constitution.
Trump isn’t exactly well known for his likeability or kindness. It’s his corruptedness, extremity and impulsiveness that people recognize him for. His tweets from social media, speeches and overall behavior account for the horrible reputation he has. For example, in 2018, Trump made a tweet bragging about how his nuclear button is much “bigger” than Kim Jong Un’s button. This comment is not only unprofessional, but has a theme of violence that shouldn’t be joked about in this immature manner.
Another inappropriate comment on Twitter in 2018 made by Trump was a tweet regarding the “Woman’s March.” The “Woman’s March” was a march famously run by women in order to protest Trump’s inauguration. In the tweet, Trump congratulates women on having the “Lowest female unemployment in 18 years” to mock the “Woman’s March” protest in response. Not only is this a horrible reaction to a protest that’s against him, but also extremely sexist and ignorant, seeing as he even insults the rare amount of women who support him by saying all “females” in general. Trump is not considerate of the consequences of his actions which show his selfishness and disregard for fellow citizens of the U.S. that simply want to survive.
The U.S. constitution was made with the people in mind, meaning all U.S. citizens, including those who are lower-class and middle-class. If Trump doesn’t care for anyone who isn't a corporate billionaire, when his duty is to be responsible for every U.S citizen, why would he bother to respect the constitution, which was made to serve all people? It’s simply because he couldn’t care less about his own U.S. citizens, even though he claims he does, it's only their huge sums of money that he benefits from that attract him.
Trump doesn’t tend to be shy with his words, as his opinions and expressions also indicate his disagreement towards the constitution. There have been multiple occasions of him voicing his dislike for the constitution, that as the president, he should be following and be guided by. He has even outright said multiple times that he feels many constitutional principles are “stupid.” I believe it's quite obvious that when a president openly expresses their hate towards the constitution, which holds the supreme law, it's quite inappropriate.
People may claim his opinions are often said unseriously or in a joking manner. However, as the formal president, he should know better than to be unprofessional and should choose his words more wisely and carefully. As the president, he represents the entirety of the U.S., therefore he should've already known that his words don't only impact his image, but also millions of U.S. citizens who may be influenced by his rather unwise words. He claims he is intelligent and has passed multiple IQ tests in a debate, but his lack of professionalism, irresponsibility and critical thinking don't seem to relay the same idea.
Lastly, Trump's actions as the president also make it clear that he not only disrespects, but defies the constitution. For instance, he has directly used his presidential authority to order bombings on nuclear sites in Iran, despite the president having no authority to wage war without congressional approval, stated in the constitution. This highlights how he evades the constitution to enforce his barbaric acts. In another instance, Trump attempts to ban birthright citizenship, which is promptly rejected because it is a strictly unconstitutional order that directly goes against the constitution. It's clear how Trump's behavior, expressions and actions all convey his disrespect and defiance towards the constitution.
