Science teacher Scott Dossa hangs in there Felix Locker
“It was very warm and comfortable,” Dossa said. “It felt like I could hang there all day and be contented.”
Three staff members got duct taped to the lockers to raise money for nonprofit organizations raising money for youths impacted by recent immigration operations on Feb. 13.
Throughout the week, four jars with teachers’ faces on them were put out during lunch. Students could put money in whoever’s jar they wanted to see get taped up the most. The two teachers with the most amount of money in their jars, math teacher Eugene Lee and science teacher Scott Dossa, got taped up with principal Jennifer Buscher.
“It was very warm and comfortable,” Dossa said. “It felt like I could hang there all day and be contented.”
It was “a fun way to gain money for a good cause,” said senior Link Crew member Alondra Lara. “It was exciting to see our teachers taped to the wall”
The duct tape fundraiser was created by Link Crew, who are currently raising money with Schnitzer Cares who leads one of the largest student-led grantmaking programs in the country, to donate to nonprofits of their choice.
The Link Crew class chose to focus on youth affected by immigration policies who have lost shelter or are in need of other resources. “We felt like a lot of children might be left with nothing to support them,” said Lara.
The “Stuck Up” fundraiser raised $200 which was matched by Schnitzer Cares, matching every dollar by 10. Lara estimates VanVickle’s Link Crew has raised $500 so far, which would be $5,000 total. Link Crew is currently in the process of reviewing applications from nonprofits and will be interviewing them to decide where the money they continue to raise will go.
Link Crew will be selling crumble cookies as another fundraiser at the basketball game on Feb. 24 vs. Reynolds, which is the last home game of the year.
