"The majority of it isn't just funny - it's chaotic
but still enjoyable. "
Chandler Levack’s "Roommates" starring Sadie Sandler and Chloe East, released on Netflix on April 17, is an enjoyable movie where most people could relate to that mixed comedy, drama and suspense in an interesting way. Even with its flaws the film still did a good job showing how quickly a close friendship can turn toxic.
The story follows two college roommates whose friendship slowly becomes chaotic and intense, keeping the movie ongoing with unexpected twists.
Sadie Sandler and Chloe East have great chemistry and the dialogue feels authentic and realistic. “Roommates” is the type of film where you look at the cover and think; “I’m about to watch a nice comedy” but the majority of it isn’t just funny – it’s chaotic but still enjoyable.
The film starts with two roommates having disputes after beginning the school year as friends, they meet with the Dean of Student Life, who tries to get them to work out their differences. She explains that things could be much worse and tells the story of her former hall-mates back when she went to college.
The main part of the film is the story told by the Dean of Student Life. Devon, played by Sadie Sandler, who is about to graduate high school but wants a change since she has spent all four years of high school friendless. She meets an outgoing girl, Celeste, played by Chloe East, at freshman orientation and clicks with her instantly. After bonding for the day and becoming "friends" she finally pops the question to become roommates. But she was unaware of her real intentions.
Although the movie has strong acting and an interesting storyline, some parts of the pacing felt slow and certain scenes became repetitive. A few moments also relied a lot on awkward tension instead of fully developing the characters, which keep the film from feeling complete
Overall, “Roommates” has an interesting concept and strong moments of drama, even if the execution isn’t always perfect. The movie leaves viewers thinking about how quickly friendships can fall apart when trust and communication disappear.
