Translation Tools

Student and teacher laptops have tools that can be used to support a variety of learning needs.  Read aloud and translation is available in programs that are installed on student devices.  No matter where the content is located, students can use the tools shown here to customize their learning environment to suit their needs.

One Note

OneNote is installed on student and teacher machines and syncs with Office 365.  This is powerful because students can use information saved in One Note from home or at school with or without internet.  Sync resumes when wifi is available so students can continue learning whether they have internet or not. (Read aloud and translation features only work with wifi.)

Keyboard Shortcuts to Help with Translation

Select All - Ctrl + A

Copy - Ctrl + C

Paste - Ctrl + V

Live Translation (captions)*

From the Slide Show Ribbon in Office 365 PowerPoint, select Always Use Subtitles.  From there presenters can select the spoken language and the subtitle language as well as where the subtitles will appear during the presentation.  This works well if the presenter is displaying the presentation and only needs to share in one other language to the audience.

Another option to support language learners is to use the Present Live option found in PowerPoint from the Office 365 area.  This option assigns a live link that participants can join on their own device and see the translation of what is spoken in their select language.  This option works well if there are multiple languages represented in an audience.  Each participant can select heh language they prefer.

Translate in Word

Microsoft products have translation tools built into them. In Word, translation is found in the Review menu under Language.  Keep in mind that translation can also be accomplished anywhere you see the immersive reader icon.  (open book with a speaker)
