How to access
How to access
Teachers - Generation Genius can be found in the Classlink launchpad of teachers in elementary schools. Each building has a unique username and password that is the same for everyone in the building. Reach out to your academic coach or to instructional technology for your school's password, instructionaltechnology@cmcss.net .
Students - No student accounts are needed. Teachers will share a "Student Link" with them. Under each video, there is a "Generate Student Link" button that will let teachers invite students to all parts of associated with that video.

The Generation Genius interface is shown here. From the home page, teachers can search for a specific topic or browse the content tiles.
The grade bands shown near the top of the page help teachers from different grade levels quickly narrow their searches.
Content can be easily sorted by Science, Math, or ELA by using the buttons to the left of the grade bands.
(CMCSS only subscribes to Science content, not Math or ELA.)
Teachers can use the videos in combination with the detailed lesson plans to help deliver instruction to students that is standards-based and engaging.
Videos can be delivered to the whole group from the teacher's device, or a student link can be generated that can be posted to any LMS for students to view independently.
Discussion questions and other resources aligned with each video are provided to support instruction.

Discussion Questions
The "Discussion Questions" section shows 5-10 questions that can be asked before the video and 5-10 questions that can be answered after viewing the video. On the teacher's side, the question is visible and the answer is hidden. Clicking an arrow will drop down to reveal the answer.
The students will not see the answers, but will see the questions for discussing as a class.

For both students and teachers, the "Vocabulary" section will show the words and a "Define" drop-down button to reveal the definition.
There is no check for understanding or activity in the vocabulary list. It is simply a glossary located on the page.

Reading Material
The "Reading Material" section contains additional text articles with images related to the video's topic. Also, the content can be downloaded as a PDF or opened in a separate page (tab).
Each section of the articles has a button labeled "Read Out Loud" to play an audio recording of the text being read aloud.

This section is ONLY available for teachers.
The "Teacher Resources" section contains downloadable PDFs. One is a lesson plan and the other is a teacher guide.
Assessment
Assessment
The "Assessment" section contains 4 options for checking students' knowledge after the video.
The "Google Forms" option has 3 different types of questions and forces you to make your own copy.
Paper Quiz is online, but contains only multiple choice questions.
Discussion Questions is online and contains paragraph-style answer boxes.
Exit Ticket is online and contains 3-5 short answer text box questions.
The "Online Quiz Game" option has 2 different types of gameplay to ask the questions.
Kahoot is best for whole group with the questions being displayed by the teacher and students answering on their own devices.
Wayground is best for individual students. This can be done at home or at school, but each student is only competing against him/herself.
The "Quiz PDF" option opens a short activity page that can be printed or added to Google Classroom and annotated in programs like Kami.
The "Exit Ticket" option opens an pop-up window with 3 questions to ask students live with no way to record their answers.
