G Suite for Education
CMCSS provides teachers and students access to the Google apps for education suite of programs. Every administrator, teacher, student, and many staff members has an account at Google that has a CMCSS domain. Google Drive, Classroom, Forms, Sheets, Sites, Draw, and more are all available for use from school and at home.
Accessing G Suite for Education
Students and Employees of CMCSS access programs provided by the district via the Classlink launchpad.
If prompted to log into an application from Classlink, use the assigned CMCSS credentials. Future attempts to access the application from Classlink should remember your credentials.
Google Apps
Select the waffle icon in the upper right corner near user name to reveal the available apps. Apps in the waffle can be rearranged by clicking the icon and dragging it to desired location. Not all available apps may be visible. Click 'More' to reveal additional apps. An explanation of some of the most frequently used apps is shown below. Click on the app icon to visit a page dedicated to the use of that particular app in an educational setting.
Google provides help for teachers who want to expand their use of Google in the classroom. The Google for Education Teacher Center provides training, certification opportunities, resources, and connections to other educators. Visit the Teacher Center to go deeper into the Google for Education world.
Managing Google Files
Google files can be shared with other people inside the CMCSS network. Files cannot be shared outside of the network directly from a CMCSS Google account. Sometimes it is necessary to transfer files to other accounts or change ownership.
Transferring Ownership of CMCSS Google Files
Teachers and administrators who are leaving CMCSS should transfer ownership of files they have shared with others in the district. When an account is deleted from the CMCSS servers, all of the items associated with the account are also deleted.
Backing up Google Files to Other Storage Area
Takeout.google.com is a way to quickly download select items from Google Drive to transfer (upload) to a different storage area like a personal Google Drive account or other digital storage service.
Once the file download is complete, navigate to the new storage area and upload the file package.
Consider the following:
Personal storage accounts may have smaller storage size than the one provided by CMCSS.
The larger the volume of files, the longer it will take to download and upload the package.
Interruptions in wifi connection can cause the download/upload to be incomplete and require starting over.
Files can be saved across multiple accounts and devices like external drives.
