John retired early from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and has since been running information skills workshops in countries such as Afghanistan, Uganda, Tanzania, India and Malawi, among others. While at the London School he ran the information skills training which was an integral part of the MSc and PhD programme as well as the Staff Development programme. He has assisted hundreds of PhD students over the years in developing their Internet skills and ensuring they can search databases for reliable, evidence-based health information, so vital to research and their future careers.
He also has extensive experience in advising research staff on complex search strategies for systematic reviews which are commonly undertaken at LSHTM (two Cochrane Review Groups are based there). He is an active member of Health Information for All by 2015 (HIFA2015 - http://www.hifa2015.org/ ) which seeks to ensure that every person worldwide will have access to an informed healthcare provider by 2015. At any stage of their research, Fellows are encouraged to contact John if they need help finding information (Email: johneyers@hotmail.com ).
