There are six research papers to be appraised by CARTA Fellows in readiness for a session during JAS 1. You have each been allocated one paper (see Table 1) and will be expected to work with the other people allocated to that paper, but must upload your own work individually by February 17, 2019. All the papers are available on HINARI or are open access publications.
Table 1. Paper assignments
Each group is expected to produce a written document (approximately 1500 words) that includes
title of paper and authors
summary of what the paper is about and its findings
critical appraisal of the paper
Appraisal tools are available from the website below.
https://casp-uk.net/casp-tools-checklists/
You can use the same structure as the critical appraisal tool in your appraisal document.
Please make contact with other Fellows who have been assigned the same paper to discuss this task by e-mail/on the CARTA Fellows website (or skype/telephone if this is possible). Each Fellow should read the paper right through. You can share the summarising and appraisal tasks between you. You should read carefully what the others in your group write and suggest changes where necessary.
When everyone in the group has agreed on the final version of the document, each Fellow should individually upload the jointly prepared summary.
As a group, you should then prepare a presentation of this task for presentation during JAS 1 to the CARTA Fellows and facilitators. Agree in advance who will make the presentation (or if you share the presentation between several people, agree who will present which section). The presentation should last 10 minutes (approximately 3 minutes summarising the paper and 7 minutes on critical appraisal). Please take time to rehearse the presentation when you are together at JAS1.
